Why Are So Many Rappers Acting?

This isn't to bash rappers, nor is it to say that these artists aren't allowed to pursue different paths in Hollywood. With so many prominent rappers acquiring roles in big movies though, it begs the question-why?

It's not as if rappers in movies are a new thing. In 1991, Mario Van Peebles cast Ice-T as a cop in "New Jack City," a film that is beloved by many. That same year, director John Singleton cast Ice Cube as a Los Angeles gangbanger in "Boyz N the Hood." These two movies helped open the floodgates for rappers to enter the world of acting.

Records will release 300: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack - The Collector's Edition to coincide with the DVD on July 31. The museum risked life and lug nuts to unearth these terrors from the auto graveyard and list them on eBay from Oct. 1 to 10.

Lionsgate, the leading independent film entertainment studio, just reported revenues of $951.2 million for fiscal year (FY) 2006 (fiscal year ended March 31, 2006), an increase of 13% compared to $842.6 million in fiscal 2005.

Lionsgate's theatrical revenue of $145.5 million in fiscal 2006 increased 2% compared to $142.8 million in fiscal 2005, propelled by such number-one box office hits as Saw II, Madea's Family Reunion, Hostel, the Best Picture Academy Award-winning Crash, Lord Of War, The Devil's Rejects and Waiting.
