The idea for Deserted Station was born during a trip to the country taken by its director, Alireza_Raisian, and Abbas_Kiarostami. Like the couple in the film, their car broke down near a remote village, inspiring Kiarostami to come up with the film's story, which was fleshed out into a script by Kambuzia_Partovi, who also wrote the script for Jafar_Panahi's international hit The_Circle. Given this pedigree and the fact that Raisian considers the hugely influential Kiarostami his mentor, Deserted Station could have ended up another Kiarostami imitation, of which there have been many since his rise to international fame in the 1990s. Refreshingly, Raisian brings his own style to the film. While it traffics in the same symbolic, allegorical style that many Kiarostami-influenced directors employ, its dashes of humor and feel for Iranian village life represent original contributions from Raisian's own sensibility. It also features a fine performance by Leila_Hatami, best known for her role as the title character in Dariush_Mehrjui's Leila. Tom Vick, Rovi
