Previewing The Movies: Fall 2009
With summer coming to an end, there's one major thing to consider: what's going to be entertaining for the next three months? We assume you're thinking the same thing (great minds being alike and all), so here's the rundown of what Hollywood has coming:
Gamer (09/04/09)
Director: Mark Neveldine, Brian Taylor
Starring: Gerard Butler, Michael C. Hall
Gamer will be one of the coolest movies of the season because it actually manages to bring a fairly new concept to the action genre. In the near future, with mind control technology pretty much commonplace, billionaire Ken Castle (Michael...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Gamer,' 'Extract' & More
Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" is my recommendation for the must-see movie of the summer. Anyone who has an appreciation for Tarantino's films will love this WWII epic.
Divided into chapters like his other directorial work, this story follows a much more linear path than earlier movies, but it still reflects his unique style and flair. Musically "Inglourious Basterds" feels like one part spaghetti western, one part 80s rock ballad, elevating the intensity of emotions and violence in a number of scenes.
As Lt. Aldo Raine, Brad Pitt is a crude, ruthless, brutally honest ...

Hyper-Masculine Action Films Are Violent, Ridiculous & So Much Fun
According to Hollywood and its demographic cinema box office soothsayers, the only people who have the ability to purchase tickets to and actively watch an action film are men and teenage boys. They believe that women, for the most part, cannot watch these films - unless their boyfriends, husbands, male friends, etc. have explicitly gave them entrance to the theater or made the magical DVD player start the film.
Either way, it is assumed that men are the ones with the keys to the magic that is "boom and vroom." Hollywood types with these lofty gendered assumptions are most definite...

(HollywoodChicago) – While 2008’s “Death Race” makes no secret about being a remake of 1975’s “Death Race 2000” with David Carradine as the title character Frankenstein and Sylvester Stallone as his archrival Machine Gun Joe Viterbo, what’s perhaps less obvious but still clear when you read between the lines is how the film steals from others.
Though the story had a different book cover, Jason Statham’s character as Jensen Ames and then the masked Frankenstein can be directly correlated to (as just one example) Nicolas Cage’s character in 1997’s “Con Air”. We’ve certainly seen this bef...

According to the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles federal court on Tuesday, Stone is seeking a court order to stop the film's release. Death Race is purported to be a remake of the 1975 film, Death Race 2000, but Stone claims it is based on his movie, Joust.

Jason Statham: 'I Don't Want To Be A 60-Year-Old Action Guy'
Jason Statham has hit out at ageing movie rival Sylvester Stallone, insisting audiences don't want to watch a 60-year-old man in an action film.
The British star of The Transporter, who recently finished shooting a remake of Stallone's 1975 film Death Race 2000, promises to retire from the genre before movie fans get bored of him.
Statham says, "The body starts to run out. I just did this remake of 'Death Race 2000' and I trained for that. I got in the best shape of my life. I was at my physical peak. So I feel if I'm that good now, with the way I feel, there's no reason why you...

Jason Statham Quit Drinking For 'Death Race 2000'
British movie tough guy Jason Statham gave up drinking while shooting the Death Race 2000 remake in Canada because he wanted to be at his very best on set. Ever the professional, the star was sober for four months.
He says, "The whole time I was up there I never had one beer. It was four months. I was training every day. You know you do the best you can do. If I'm no good in the movie, that's my fault. It's not because it was eight tequila shots and a bunch of people I shouldn't have been with."
