SuperBad
Making the transition from adolescence into adulthood is a critical phase in an individual's life. This coming-of-age period, which has been coined "emerging adulthood" by Clark University research professor, Dr. Jeffrey Arnett, is characterized by identity exploration, self-focus, instability, a belief in boundless possibilities, and feeling in-between. According to Arnett's theory, in industrialized societies the types of experiences that people have who are in their late teens to mid-20's have changed dramatically over the past 50 years. Instead of being quick to make that walk down the ...

Bring It On
It's the end of September, and now there's no turning back. Summer is too distant a memory, Christmas Break is a speck on the horizon and the work is beginning to pile up. Yes, school is back in full swing and an escape from the dullness of its routine couldn't even be accomplished by the craftiest of magicians.

The only respite at this point is fantasy. Dreaming of a life outside of ours, one where school is but a minor inconvenience and can even serve as a method of deriving happiness.

Where does this place exist? The movies, of course. High school movies are enjoyed by stud...

Our Favorite High School Movies

September 18th, 2008 10:00am EDT
The Breakfast Club
Perhaps you've heard about "Assassination of a High School President," the Bruce Willis/Mischa Barton movie that darkly satirizes high school politics. While much of the high school set is eagerly anticipating the film's theatrical release in early 2009, early reviews from its January screening at Sundance have been mixed. MTV has praised it as a cross between "Rushmore" and "The Usual Suspects," while Variety labeled it an "uninventive," "muddled parody." Only time will tell if the movie becomes an instant classic or ends up in the bargain DVD bin next to "Encino Man."

There has been...

Who
This weekend, there will be a movie released in the shadow of 21 and Run Fat Boy Run. It is a true independent film, normally for film school geeks with something to prove or French people. But now it's gained some theatrical distribution, and it may be outstretching its bounds.
