It was the year 1752 when Barnabas' parents came to America to expand their business empire. But after establishing the thriving New England fishing town of Collinsport, the family experienced a series of misfortunes when Barnabas fell for the gorgeous Josette DuPres (Bella He...

2012 Summer Blockbusters - The Winners & The Losers
Sometimes the task of getting people to flock to the movie theatres during the summer months can be tricky, as some would rather soak up the rays from the sun instead of those coming from the projector. But if the soothing sensation of a cool, dark room isn't enough to attract the audience, what is? Here's a recap of this summer's hits and misses at the box office.
The season kicked off big time with "The Avengers," which brought in a record $207.4 million during its first weekend. Performances by stars such as Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson brought life to Iron Man,...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Battleship,' 'The Dictator,' & More
Last week’s Tim Burton/Johnny Depp collaboration “Dark Shadows” turned out to be rather disappointing. The film starts out strong, but loses steam as it progresses. It has plenty of Burton’s trademark grim style with musical accompaniment by Danny Elfman, and some decent humor. However the villain is very one-dimensional, the climax is weak, and in many ways the film feels like a watered-down version of other classic Burton works like “Beetlejuice” and “Edward Scissorhands.” My Grade: C+

Great Actor/Director Combos For The Release Of 'Dark Shadows'
Every artist has their muse, whether it be human, imaginary, or in some cases, drug induced. And while certainly some people might joke that the latter is Tim Burton's muse of choice, given the stye and subject of many of his films, it's become quite clear over the years that he draws inspiration from the people he surrounds himself with. Most notable among them are Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp.
Given that his newest film, "Dark Shadows", marks Burton and Depp's 8th film collaboration, we at Starpulse decided to take a look at some of the other actor/director partnerships that hav...

Box Office: 'The Avengers' Should Break 'Avatar' Record, 'Dark Shadows' Set For Distant Second
The Avengers should have little trouble breaking Avatar's second weekend record, thanks in part to great reviews and word of mouth. Avatar took in just above $75 million its second weekend and pundits suggest The Avengers may break the $100 million mark.
The Avengers face no contenders for the top spot; while Johnny Depp's Dark Shadows should bring in a good haul, Box Office Mojo suggests it will "only" make $33 million.
If The Avengers beats Avatar's second weekend mark, it could be a sign that Disney's film might contend for the top domestic spot of all-time. James C...

Johnny Depp's Dark Humor And Charm Works In 'Dark Shadows'
"Dark Shadows" is filled with lots of goth-like sarcasm and dysfunctional characters which include, a reluctant vampire with irresistible swag; a mysterious women who is strangely drawn to him; a jealous voluptuous vixen who’s both a seductress and witch; a strange family in a creepy mansion, with secrets all around and complexities that date back centuries.
In a nutshell, that pretty much sums up “Dark Shadows.”
With a template that goes back to 60s cult-based television, breaking the mold for daytime soaps, fans of the original version are debating whether or not to see the rehash-for-t...

'Dark Shadows' Is Fun & Campy Despite A One-Note Performance From Johnny Depp
For those of you, like myself, who aren't familiar with the television series 'Dark Shadows' which ran from 1966-1971, here are the film's cliff notes:
The year is 1750 (give or take) and a wealthy young man named Barnabus Collins (Johnny Depp) gets it on with his maid Angelique (Eva Green), who just happens to be a witch. She feels the love... Him… not so much. The witch gets pissed, turns Barnabus into a vampire, locks him in a coffin and then buries him deep in the ground.
Still not satisfied, Angelique kills Barnabus's one true love as well as his parents and then she spends the next ...

Earlier this year, gossips suggested the couple had begun to live separate lives due to growing tension about the actor's booming career, and speculation about a separation continued to swirl as Depp and Paradis played coy about the status of their relationship in medi...

Johnny Depp Needed Help Going To The Bathroom On 'Dark Shadows' Set
Johnny Depp’s latest character, Barnabas Collins, required another dramatic physical transformation. The vampire from TV’s Dark Shadows is painted pale white, walks with a cane and has long vampire fingernails. So too does Johnny Depp in the film versions.
“In every film that I’ve been lucky enough to do with Tim [Burton], there’s always some form of torture, and the nails were Tim’s idea,” Depp said. “They were the length of the fingers and stuff, but it was okay because I had a troop of people who would help me go to the bathroom. Michelle Pfeiffer was so desperate to star in the big screen remake of her favorite show Dark Shadows she pleaded director Tim Burton for a part.

Nevertheless, Pfeiffer was forced to wait for a year before finally getting the go-ahead to play Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the matriarch of a vampire family.

Is Johnny Depp Having a Chemical Romance In New 'Dark Shadows' Photo?
Johnny Depp is infamous for basing his characters on real life personalities, especially famous musicians.
Captain Jack Sparrow from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films was, of course, modeled after Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, while Depp's take on Willy Wonka from "Charlies and the Chocolate Factory" was believed by many to be a thinly veiled interpretation of Michael Jackson.
All of which may help explain why the latest photo from "Dark Shadows" features a Depp who looks startlingly like My Chemical Romance lead singer Gerard Way.

Johnny Depp has done a lot of high profile, mainstream films in recent years -- "Pirates of the Caribbean," "The Tourist," "Public Enemy" -- but now he's finally getting back to doing what he does best: being weird.
