In "Contagion" Steven Soderbergh presents a look at what happens when an infectious disease threatens humanity through varied viewpoints from an ensemble cast, including Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Laurence Fishburne, and Kate Winslet.

The film opened at number one in September with $23.1 million.

Jude Law fears scenes from the film could be played out in real life. He is convinced there is a "very high likelihood" of an imminent worldwide pandemic.

Jude Law fears scenes from his new movie Contagion could be played out in real life as he is convinced there is a "very high likelihood" of an imminent worldwide pandemic.

The British actor plays a journalist in the medical thriller, about a virus that spreads rapidly across the planet, and he believes a similar disaster could occur in real life.

'The Lion King 3D' Dominates Weekend Box Office

The Lion King 3D
The 3D re-release of Disney classic "The Lion King" has roared to the top of the box office chart, grossing $29.3 million.

The animated family film, which features the voice of teen idol Jonathan Taylor Thomas as a young Simba, was originally released in 1994, when it opened with takings of more than $40 million, and it's proved a big hit the second time around, too.

"The Lion King 3D" knocked last week's number one, the star-studded outbreak thriller "Contagion," into second place with $14.5 million.

Faithful readers, I apologize that we didn’t have a Trailer Talk column last week. I just moved into a wonderful new apartment and got pretty wrapped up in the packing/unpacking process. Now that I’m settled though, we’re back to business as usual.

I watched Steven Soderbergh’s “Contagion” last week, which I really enjoyed. It’s an infectious whodunit with fantastic casting, eerie electronic music that effectively builds tension, and solid character development. My Grade: A

'Contagion' Tops Weekend Box Office

Director Steven Soderbergh's star-studded disaster movie "Contagion" has topped the box office.

The film, about a deadly virus, opened with $23.1 million over the weekend.

Summer sleeper hit "The Help" dropped to second after spending three weeks at the top.

Mixed martial arts movie "Warrior" opened with $5.6 million. "The Debt" and "Colombiana" round out the new top five.

The end of the year is always the most exciting time for true movie lovers as the studios release the films they hope to compete in the race for the many awards shows that will happen early next year. This September will have some decent films to choose from (namely "Contagion" and "Drive"), but with a greater amount of less-than-impressive fare than is normally seen.
