With the current Eddie Murphy 'Oscar Host' resurgence being shout loud and proud over the net, I felt it was time to both sing the praises and highlight the flaws in the work of the man who dared to channel a grown-up Buckwheat. This list is not the collective view of the Starpulse clan, but rather the sole opinion of yours truly and I’m pulling no motion picture punches on this one. I’ve put together a list of my top five best Murphy movies to ever grace the silver screen with their comedy, action and unforgettable Eddie zeal. But I’ve also included a list of five of the most horrible, d...

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?
Following up from last week, "The Hangover" turned out to be a hilarious movie. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. I liked it so much that I actually ended up seeing it twice. For a more in-depth discussion of the movie, feel free to check out my review.
This week there are four movies premiering - two thrillers, a comedy, and a drama. We have "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3," "Moon," "Imagine That," and "Tetro."
THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1 2 3
In this remake of the 1974 film, "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" a New York City subway dispatcher named Walter Garber (D...

Is It OK To Dislike Caddyshack?
Caddyshack isn't that good, and it's not very funny. If you're 9 out of 10 red blooded American men, that last sentence just infuriated you like I just made slanderous remarks about your grandmother. I've never met your grandmother, but I have seen Caddyshack - and it kind of sucks. My editors were quick to advise me that although they were giving me the go-ahead on this piece, they would have to include a bigger than usual disclaimer saying that the opinions expressed are solely that of Matthew J. Swanson. I'll tell you that right now, too: it is just my opinion, but it happens to be t...
READ MORESamuel L. Jackson: The Hardest Working Man in Hollywood
If you have seen more than 10 movies in your lifetime, Samuel L. Jackson was probably in at least 6 of them. You must have noticed that he is in a lot of movies. Often labeled as the hardest working man in Hollywood, he has starred in over 25 films, made countless cameos, and performed voice over roles.
While some movies instantly make you think of Jackson, such as Snakes on a Plane, Pulp Fiction and Coach Carter, there is a whole list of movies he has been in that you might not remember or even have noticed. The following list points out some of these roles and perhaps will make you ...

Movies With Heart: The 100 Best 'Romdramedies' Of The Past 20 Years
There's the quintessential romantic comedy, and then there's the romdramedy. Similar to a dramedy (in which there is an equal balance of humor and serious content), a romdramedy combines comedy and drama with that mushy thing we call romance.
This is not a list of the best films over the past 20 years. Rather it is a list that gives preferences to those films that best combine all three elements - romance, comedy and drama.
Films like Magnolia and The Matrix were barred from competition, while films like Down with Love were considered (however, that one didn't make the cut)....

Starpulse Q&A: Sklar Brothers Talk Meta, Maniacs, & Movies
Less than a year after they taped the final episode of ESPN Classic's Cheap Seats, which did for sports what Mystery Science Theater 3000 did for bad movies, The Sklar Brothers

In this Starpulse Q and A, the Sklars discuss what it takes to make a successful web series, compare celebrity worship to bullfighting, and reminisce about having a knife wielding maniac charge the stage.

Akon: 'Everybody Thought I Was A Prince'
R&B star Akon loved being the envy of all his classmates at school and even convinced them he was an African prince. The singer - who was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Senegalese parents - would often get picked up from school by his father in a black Mercedes-Benz, much to the annoyance of his friends.
He says, Everybody here believed every stereotype (about Africa). I was like, 'These guys can't be no more stupid than they look.'"
And the 1988 release of Eddie Murphy's Coming To America, in which he plays an African prince adjusting to life in the US, only enhanced Akon's pro...
