Blunt Parody Trumps Tradition on 'Psych'

July 30th, 2010 10:30am EDT
Dule Hill stars as Gus on USA
What I’ve always loved about Psych is that no one on the show is taking themselves seriously at all. When plugging the latest season on Attack of the Show, Dule Hill (who plays Burton "Gus" Guster on the show, a somewhat sidekick to a fake psychic) referred to episodes as the "Rush Hour episode" or the "Close Encounters episode."

This is a show that fully embraces what it is: one big joke at the expense of everything and anything else. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

Now in their fifth season, Psych hasn’t slowed up or worsened yet. With Shawn (James Roday) and Gus still being Shawn ...

Top 10 Films With Numbers In The Title

September 26th, 2009 1:52pm EDT
9
In honor of the recent Tim Burton film 9 we're spotlighting numerals and numbers in film. What they have contributed to movies over the years goes beyond simply differentiating an original from a sequel.

For the most part this list excludes sequels. Sorry. It's just too easy. Also, much too simple are the straight up number films. But the English language loopholes are definitely abused throughout this top ten to reflect the best and, well, most viewed options. Check them out!

1. The First Wives Club.

This is the smartass chick's chick flick with a message. Bette Midler. Goldie ...

To science fiction geeks, September 1951 gave the world one thing: Robert Wise's The Day the Earth Stood Still.

In the film, the inhabitants of Earth face a dire choice. Throw down their weapons and live in peace, or have the entire planet des...

A Look At The Influence of 'Days Of Our Lives' On Recent Pop Culture

November 5th, 2008 11:50am EST
Days Of Our Lives
Back in 2004 a documentary-- not completely unlike Trekkies but for the soap opera crowd-- began filming in Los Angeles, interviewing the stars and fans alike of Days of our Lives. In honor of the fortieth anniversary of the show being on air (as well as the producer/director's college thesis project), this documentary sought to look deep into the psyches of the people who dedicated the majority of their lives to following this show. At an hour a day, five days a week, starting at a time before TiVo, it was true dedication to devote one's interest to such a show. What was found, though, ...
