April 2nd, 2012 1:28pm EDT

Heavyweight filmmaker Kevin Smith was plunged into a deep depression after he was thrown off a plane because he was too fat.

The Clerks director was left fuming after he was ordered to evacuate a Southwest Airlines flight in February 2010 after staff deemed him too portly to fly.

He went on a Twitter.com rampage against Southwest executives, who promptly apologized for the incident, but Smith admits he endured "the three worst days" of his life when the story headlines around the globe.

Clerks director Kevin Smith has dropped 65 pounds since he was asked to leave a plane because he was too fat.

The filmmaker was left fuming after he was ordered to evacuate his seat on a Southwest Airlines flight last February when he was deemed too big to fly. A year after the incident, Smith admits he has slimmed down after the humiliating experience prompted him to embark on a healthier lifestyle.

However, he refuses to trade his loose-fitting hockey jerseys for tighter clothing - because he's convinced he'll never have a slender build.

He tells TV host Joy Behar, "I sympathize far...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Cop Out,' 'The Crazies' & More

February 22nd, 2010 9:53am EST
Cop Out
Friday I caught Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese's latest collaboration "Shutter Island." I was not blown away by it, but I did not think it was a terrible movie either. Since I have not read the novel on which it is based, I'm at a bit of a disadvantage to comment on whether it was a faithful adaptation; however as a thriller it kept me guessing for most of the film.

It does a good job of planting the seeds of doubt and conspiracy with you, as you start to piece together a series of bizarre dreams DiCaprio's character experiences. The most annoying aspect of the movie I thought ...

Fan Tattooed Kevin Smith's Autograph On His Butt

September 29th, 2009 8:28am EDT
Kevin Smith
Filmmaker Kevin Smith is still in shock over a superfan who stripped down to his underwear and asked him for an autograph - so he could have the director's signature tattooed on his bum.

The Clerks director was stunned when the devotee dashed up to him at an event and asked him to sign his arm, so he could have the scribble tattooed.

Smith's refusal only made the fan more desperate and so the moviemaker had to sign his backside.

The director remembers, "The guy in the audience was like, 'Will you sign my arm? I'm going to have it (your name) tattooed there.' (I said) 'Don't put my ...

Kevin Smith
Moviemaker Kevin Smith is planning to spend Labor Day 'tweeting' fans. The cult Clerks and Jersey Girl director admits he's been training for a marathon Twitter.com session for weeks - and fans can ask him anything on Monday.

A statement from Smith, who boasts over one million Twitter.com followers, reads, "I wanna see if I can do it. I've been training for this my whole life, simply by being a lazy fat ass who'd rather stare at a screen than better himself with a brisk constitutional. Someone asked what my training regiment is gonna be, and I told them I've already stockpiled lots of C...

Worst Jobs On Film

April 3rd, 2009 3:56pm EDT
Adventureland
Most people can empathize with a movie character who's stuck in a horrible, dead end job. We've all had that one job where we'd rather stab ourselves in the eye then go into the office for eight hours of pure torture. Whether it's a boring office job, a customer service-related job, or working at a run down amusement park for the summer like in Adventureland, some jobs are excruciating!

As a tribute to Adventureland, which opens today, we're spotlighting the worst jobs portrayed on film.

In The Pineapple Express, Seth Rogen plays a process server who serves people subpoenas to ap...

October 20th, 2008 9:03am EDT
Heavyweight Turd-maker
Heavyweight movie maker Kevin Smith is determined to shed the pounds after breaking a toilet.

The Clerks director was playing poker at a friend's Los Angeles DVD and comic book store when he was taken short and excused himself. But when he saw the toilet bowl, which jutted out from a wall, he feared the worst - and the worst happened.

Red-faced Smith recalls, "That kind of toilet, with no base, is no friend to a fat man." And when he sat on the lavatory, it groaned and creaked and then came away from the wall. "The contents of the bowl was dangerously (rocking in the bowl). I'm ...

Point/Counterpoint: Should Hollywood Stop Remaking Classic Films?

January 18th, 2008 1:45pm EST
Rob Zombie
Over the years many classic movies have been remade. Don't get me wrong, some of those remakes have been really good. But the majority of the movies have been really bad.

These days, special effects are being taken to a whole new level, but that's not always a good thing. One of the main reasons these films are classics is because CGI was in the distant future. People loved the original "Godzilla" because you can see the man in the Godzilla costume crushing a cardboard box, also known as Tokyo.

There are few movies that have scared me, and one of those films was the 1978 movie "Ha...

Kevin Smith Doesn't Mind Funny Insults

July 9th, 2007 10:25am EDT
 Kevin Smith
Director Kevin Smith doesn't mind if critics insult him when he appears in movies - just as long as they are funny. The Clerks director was slated by some critics for his small part in the new Die Hard movie but admits it doesn't bother him because the comments make him laugh.

Smith was branded "increasingly, an indie-cred Muppet for studio movies" by a Boston based critic after appearing in the Bruce Willis picture. However the film maker responded to the taunt in good humor, positing a message on his website saying: "Any outrage I might've mustered evaporated after reading 'indie-c...

Filmmaker Kevin Smith was amazed when Bruce Willis threatened to quit the upcoming Die Hard sequel if a studio executive didn't allow him to use his own dialogue. Clerks director Smith has a small role in Live Free Or Die Hard and re-wrote his lines for the part.

But when Willis, who returns as police officer John McClane for a fourth time in the movie, found out studio bosses weren't happy with the changes, he gave them an ultimatum.

Smith says, "Bruce just sat there on the phone going, 'Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh,' and then, 'Let me ask you a question - who's your second choice to...

Smith has written, directed and starred in Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma and Jay And Silent Bob Strikes Back - and now wants to turn his attention solely to portraying a cynical divorcee in the Showtime comedy.

He tells MTV, "It should be an interesting exercise that, if the show works as well as the script, will turn into a sweet side gig for me. At the very least, I'll learn a thing or two about acting; at the most, I'll have something to do four months ou...

Now Smith is confident Clerks II - which reunites most of the cast of the original film - will be a hit. He tells Empire magazine, "I love it. I think hands down it's the best film we've ever made. You never say never, and to not do Clerks II because at...
