6/20/2015 11:03am EDT
10 Great Latter-Day Sequels That Kicked Ass
The summer movie season is in full swing, with the usual glut of sequels, prequels, remakes, and other no-risk productions. Franchises keep being extended primarily because this business model is easy and familiar, but also because every once in a while, a worthwhile extension of the brand comes out. Conventional wisdom suggests that once a franchise extends beyond a trilogy, it has become at best a parody of itself. But some have managed to become reinvigorated or even reach their creative high points with their 4th, 5th, or even 21st entry. So here are some classic latter-day sequels to o...

George Lazenby, who played James Bond in On Her Majesty's Sercret Service, is outraged that the spy will be drinking Heineken in the new film Skyfall instead of the usual vodka martini.

TMZ reports that the producers behind the Bond flick secured a $45 million deal with Heineken, and Daniel Craig will be drinking the beer at some point in the film. Since the series' inception, Agent 007 has always ordered a vodka martini "Shaken, not stirred." In Casino Royale, Daniel Craig's bond ordered the drink - and when asked how he wanted it prepared, he snapped "Do I look like I give a damn?"

Hawaii Five-O
An admission: I love the Fast & Furious films. So give me Hawaii Five-0 taking after the Fast & Furious films, and I'm a happy girl.

The show opens big, with Honolulu Police cruisers trying to catch a speedy flame-red set of wheels and finding a whole host of beautiful cars inside locked shipping containers. One of them has a dead body sans fingerprints in the trunk. This allows us to use Hawaii's car culture as the episode's backdrop. (It also means Lauren German gets primped as if she's trying to channel Michelle Rodriguez - if Rodriguez's Letty had driven a bait car.) There are ...

Top 5 Most Arresting Actors

3/19/2011 11:00am EDT
Casino Royale
When you watch as much TV as I do, you're lucky to see a lot of great actors. But few are the ones who are so great that they make me stop and stare. They're the ones who have my undivided attention when they appear on screen. When they talk, I shut up and listen. They make my jaw drop, my heart break and my head spin. Here's a tribute to five actors who've made me say, "Why didn't I notice you sooner?"

Andre Braugher, Men of a Certain Age

The Emmy winner and Golden Globe nominee was the first actor to ever catch my attention, when I became a fan of Homicide: Life on the Street in 19...

And Dench, who plays 007's demanding boss M in the movie, sympathizes with viewers - she found it hard to keep up with as well.

She tells Britain's The Times Magazine, "Yes, I know, it was hard, wasn't it? I didn't have a clue what was going on. I just did my bit, as I was told. I shou...

With MGM up for auction - and no buyer in sight - the world's greatest film franchise lies in peril. This week's cover story investigates what's next for James Bond, and whether Daniel Craig has sipped his last shaken martini.

Up until last spring, it looked as if James Bond would indeed return, but after decades of invincibility, it seems as if 007 has finally been defeated, at least for the foreseeable future. What's holding up production on the next movie is the sale of MGM, which went up for auction last November and still hasn't found a buyer. Then, in July, there was more reason t...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies -'When in Rome,' 'Edge of Darkness' & More

1/25/2010 10:59am EST
Edge of Darkness
I took a break from the movies last week, since nothing in theaters was particularly calling out to me as worthwhile. Instead I saw a release on video I wanted to catch: the new "Family Guy" "Star Wars" parody "Something Something Something Dark Side." I found "Dark Side" to be pretty hilarious, although perhaps not quite as novel as "Blue Harvest." As a lifelong "Star Wars" fan, I've always had an appreciation for shows and movies that deftly lampoon the series.

This last week in January Kristen Bell portrays a workaholic skeptical about love in the romantic comedy "When in Rome," Me...

Spy Movies: Which One Is Your Favorite?

3/23/2009 10:52am EDT
The movie Duplicity starring Clive Owen and Julia Roberts hit theaters this weekend. In the film, Owen, a former MI-6 agent, and Roberts, a former CIA agent, work together on a project, but neither feels they can completely trust each other. The word duplicity means to conceal one's true intentions by deceptive words or actions, and the title seems very fitting. The release is sure to be one of the more popular movies of the spring, and it got Starpulse thinking about the best spy movies.

One of the most entertaing spy movies is Arnold Schwarzenegger's True Lies, where he plays ...
