Etta James Has Leukemia

Legendary R&B star Etta James is gravely ill and is battling leukemia.

The 72-year-old icon has suffered from Alzheimer's disease since 2009, but her health problems have worsened and new court papers reveal she is currently undergoing cancer treatment. It is not known when she was diagnosed with the latest ailment.

The cancer revelation came to light in legal documents filed by her husband of 41 years, Artis Mills, who has asked a California judge to grant him control of her finances.

Mills claims the "At Last" singer is gravely ill and has become too sick to manage her own money.

Etta James Hospitalized With An Infection
Legendary soul singer Etta James has been hospitalized in Southern California with a serious infection, according to her son. The At Last singer, 72, was admitted to Riverside Community Hospital about a week ago after being diagnosed with sepsis caused by a urinary tract infection.

According to Donto James, his mother entered a treatment program at the start of the year to receive help in kicking a dependency on painkillers and over-the-counter medication. Beyonce is in talks to play the late great Eartha Kitt in a new film. After portraying Etta James in Cadillac Records and emulating Diana Ross in Dreamgirls, the singer/actress is hoping to complete a trilogy of diva roles by taking on original Catwoman Kitt on the big screen.

She says, "I was going to do a film about Eartha Kitt. It's a great story, but I don't know if it's still happening. If it does, it'll just fall into place."

Kitt died on Christmas Day after losing her battle with colon cancer at age 81.

Filmmaker Baz Luhrmann is desperate to team Beyonce Knowles and Hugh Jackman for a new movie musical after directing the stars for a medley of showtunes at the Oscars.

Blues singer Etta James was overcome with pride watching Beyonce Knowles covering her classic song At Last for new U.S. President Barack Obama.
