The Avengers
On Friday we forecasted that Battleship had no chance beating The Avengers over the weekend, but we had no idea the board game-turned-movie would debut so low.

Expected to make around $40 million its first three days, Battleship could only muster $25 million. A $209 million production budget and sizeable market spend means the film has some work to do if it doesn't want to be a total loss.

Meanwhile, Avengers continues to dominate the box office here in the United States and across the world. Domestically the film took in another $55 million, just over estimates. That puts its US total at...

"The Power of love is a curious thing. Make a one man weep, make another man sing." - Hugh Anthony Cregg III (Huey Lewis) 1985.

"Paper Heart" is an oddball of a film disguised as a semi-sweet documentary on which nothing can be taken at face value -- though they might want you to -- and that's what's so curious. If Charlyne Yi's goal was to make a type film that no one has ever seen before, she just may have pulled it off. Of course, this isn't always a worthwhile goal: John Lennon wanted to record a song that no one had ever heard before and he came up with "Revolution 9" for The Beatle...

Documentary films, the traditional kind that the average person simply ignores, have long since given way to the popular faux documentary. Christopher Guest's films Best in Show, For Your Consideration, and A Mighty Wind were all based on a fake, typically unseen camera crew following a group during or to an event. Sacha Baron Cohen also took this approach, with an obviously irreverent tone, with Da Ali G S...
