Felony burglary charges against Randy Quaid and his wife Evi have been dropped just days after the couple were jailed for failing to show up at court.

The couple had been charged with defrauding an innkeeper after failing to settle a $10,000 bill following a 2009 stay at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California.

They were also facing conspiracy and burglary charges, but prosecutors have decided to drop the case.

The "Brokeback Mountain" star and his wife were released from prison on Monday after posting $100,000 bail each.

Randy Quaid
Actor Randy Quaid and his wife have been released from prison after posting $100,000 bail each.
The Brokeback Mountain star and his wife Evi were jailed by a judge in Santa Barbara, California on Monday to make sure they returned for a hearing into their 2009 fraud and burglary case on Wednesday after a series of court no-shows.

Superior Court Judge Frank Ochoa told the couple they had been disrespectful by refusing to show up for arranged court dates, including one they missed earlier this month. The pair was then taken into custody - but spent less than four hours behind bars after off...

Randy Quaid And Wife Suing Ex-Lawyer For Gossip Stories

4/25/2010 10:00am EDT
Randy Quaid and his wife Evi are suing their former lawyer, accusing him of "gossip mongering" by allegedly running stories about them on his website.

In a lawsuit, the Brokeback Mountain star and his wife claim they hired attorney Lloyd Braun to negotiate business deals for the actor.

The Quaids allege he became a close family friend but eventually betrayed them by posting photos and information about them on his entertainment website.

But a lawyer for Braun has dismissed their accusations, telling, "The alleged facts are palpably untrue. Lloyd Braun hasn't represented th...

4/6/2010 6:00pm EDT
Jake Gyllenhaal
Jake Gyllenhaal bulked up for his role in upcoming action movie Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time by mastering the French martial art of Parkour.

The Hollywood hunk completely transformed his body to take on the role as Prince Dastan in the big screen adaptation of the popular video game, and prepared for the shoot by training with professional athletes and gymnasts.

He tells, "(I) never did anything this intensive before (as a workout). It's a physical role. And when I commit to playing a part, it's 110 per cent. We worked really closely with David Belle, who invented Park...

The Worst Best Picture Academy Award Winners

3/5/2010 12:15pm EST
worst best picture winners
This year’s Academy Awards mark the 82nd time that an Oscar statuette has been awarded for Best Picture. Since the high-flying war epic Wings first brought home the gold in 1928, some of the most famous movies of all time have shared in the honor: Gone With The Wind, The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Godfather. Not only are these titles essential viewing for movie fans, but they’re basically a prerequisite for being a functional human being. Still, with 81 titles to choose from, not every Best Picture winner can be, you know, good.

It seems that every year somebody comes along to complain ...

Anne Hathaway Takes Underwear From Film Sets

Anne Hathaway
"I have a bra from Brokeback Mountain and now I have the White Queen's knickers (from Alice In Wonderland). They're white and frilly and I wore them the other day actually." Anne Hathaway steals undergarments from her films.

Anne turned down the title role in Tim Burton's new "Alice In Wonderland" because she was fed up with playing a "pretty girl in a fairy dress." She told Britain's GQ, "I wanted the Queen to be a cross between Debbie Harry, Greta Garbo, David Bowie, with (a) little bit of the work of Dan Flavin thrown in for good measure."

And despite rumors, Anne will not be pl...

Why All the Megan Fox Hate?
It's barely three months since "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" crapped itself onto movie screens all over America, and already people want to declare the end of the Megan Fox fad. They talk about how she doesn't say very smart things when she talks.

Most of all, they talk about how it's getting exhausting to hear about her every day. Google "Megan Fox afraid of the dark" and you get more than 59,000 results. Do the same with "Megan Fox doesn't like pa...

Trailer Talk: 'Halloween II,' 'Taking Woodstock' & More

8/24/2009 10:01am EDT
I have not had the chance to see "Inglourious Basterds" yet, but I'm hoping to catch it in the next couple of days. From the people I have spoken with that have seen it already, it's supposed to be really entertaining.

Other films in my current backlog include "District 9" which I've only heard positive feedback about, and the Paul Giamatti comedy "Cold Souls."

Two of the movies premiering this week are horror movies, and the other two are comedies. One of the films is another sequel annoyingly titled to resemble the first movie's title much like "Fast & Furious." Arriving at the b...

25 Surprise Celebrity Deaths That Rocked Us All

Natasha Richardson
Actress Natasha Richardson's unexpected death in a skiing accident late last month stunned and saddened the public. The usually overzealous media even seemed to tread lightly, gently reporting a story it never expected to tell. For a culture that values and admires celebrity, the death of vibrant public figures with potential yet to fulfill serves as a harsh reminder that despite glamour, talent and seemingly charmed lives, all of us are mortal. Whether on screens big or small, over the radio airwaves or in bright vivid color on canvas, the sudden passing of an entertainer can feel like the...

An Idiot's Guide To The Oscar's Best Actor Award

Sean Penn/Mickey Rourke
(TJAGS is a weekly column) "Whatever happens, whether it includes Mickey or I, or not, at this next thing ... we know that the TV people have got their dog fight. But, they're idiots."

- Sean Penn, during his acceptance speech for Best Actor at the Screen Actors Guild Award Ceremony

I am not what Sean Penn would probably classify as a "TV person" (I do like TV, though, if that's what he meant); luckily though, I am kind of an idiot. So, yeah Sean, you're right! We do have a dogfight for the Best Actor Academy Award on February 22. In fact, if recent reports are to be believed, it ...

Italy: Furor After TV Cuts 'Brokeback Mountain'

12/10/2008 9:38am EST
Brokeback Mountain
ROME (AP) — Gay rights groups charged Wednesday that Italy's state television censored Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain" when it aired the Oscar-winning movie by cutting scenes of gay sex.

Activists protested that RAI TV would never have dropped similar scenes had they involved a heterosexual couple, and politicians called for the incident to be discussed in parliament. RAI said it had aired the cut version by mistake.

"Brokeback Mountain" is a cowboy romance about two ranch-hand buddies who start an affair when they meet on the fictional mountain in the 1960s. The 2005 movie won thr...

Workplace Romance: Costars Who Fell In Love

8/19/2008 12:08pm EDT
Mr. and Mrs. Smith
It is widely acknowledged that workplace romances are a definite no-no; clearly, some famous actors and actresses didn't get the memo. From classic romantic duos Bogey/Bacall and Spencer/Tracy to contemporary pairings like "Bennifer" and "Brangelina", since the inception of cinema, thespians have taken on-set relationships from reel-life to real-life.

Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland's hearts skipped a beat while filming Flatliners (1990). Tom Cruise admired a young Aussie actress named Nicole Kidman and had her cast opposite him in Days of Thunder. The movie Seven ended with Gwynet...

Gay Characters On TV? No Big Deal

Ellen Degeneres
Remember a few years ago when entertainment magazines hailed the coming of gay television? With hits like Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and Will & Grace drawing millions of fans on both sides of the gay fence it seemed like a veritable gay revolution was at hand. Then "Will & Grace" stopped being funny, "Queer Eye" ceased being entertaining, and Ellen became the straightest lesbian to ever host her own talk show.

Queer Eye

Was the gay television boom dead, or had it retreated into the closet waiting for a brand new coming out party? Where have all the dude loving dudes gone...

Spotlight On Australian Entertainers

7/21/2008 9:00am EDT
Russell Crowe
What is it about Aussies that Americans find so fascinating? Is it the cute accents? The laid-back attitudes? The "party animal" reputations? It could be a mix of all of these traits. It could also be because, although we speak the same language and our cultures have many similarities, many of us know very little about Australia. That strange yet familiar vibe makes those down under denizens appear exciting and mysterious - an irresistible combo!

Since Americans are also fascinated with celebrities, it's no surprise that so many awesome Aussie entertainers have found fame in the U.S. ...

'The Dark Knight' Bestows Role of a Lifetime For Heath Ledger, Epic Proportions For Itself

7/17/2008 9:59am EDT
The Dark Knight
(Hollywoodchicago) – With only three short words comprising the film’s enigmatic title, “The Dark Knight” also boasts three epic claims to fame: the role of a lifetime for the late Heath Ledger as the hauntingly deranged Joker, one of the best films of 2008 and one of the greatest superhero films of all time.

In a year when Hollywood has the superhero woody comparable to when westerns where the greatest thing since sliced bread, “The Dark Knight” not only fares well against blockbuster competition with films like “Iron Man” and “The Incredible Hulk” but also manages to rise above chart...

'Brokeback Mountain' Sequel Ideas

5/23/2008 8:45am EDT
Brokeback Mountain
All great films have sequels. How else are movie studios going to squeeze audiences for every dime of their hard earned cash? Yet some movies are still without a follow-up. Beloved American classics are being left to fade into obscurity while Harrison Ford wheels around with a whip.

Brokeback Mountain is one such movie. While film and real-life tragedy has made it impossible to continue the story of our star-crossed lovers, that doesn't mean new actors shouldn't be able to step into the story. It worked for Step Up 2 The Streets so it can work for "Brokeback Mountain." Here are some a...

Fifteen Flicks to Avoid on Family Movie Night
Picture this: There's nothing on network so Mom or Pop finds a movie on a premium channel or slides in a DVD from the local video store. Everything's fine until two actors start a simulated bump-n-grind in 53 unavoidable inches of high def skin on parade.

The room gets quiet. Your face gets hot. You do your best not to look at anyone else while your insides curdle and you long to be anywhere but in that room. Sound familiar? Whether your 15 or 50, watching certain subject matter with your elders can equal sheer mortification; with that in mind, we've compiled a list of twenty films too a...

'The Incredible Hulk': Will It Suck Or Satisfy?

4/24/2008 9:00am EDT
The Incredible Hulk
Way back in 2003 Ang Lee, who would go on to helm the critically acclaimed Brokeback Mountain, lent his vision of sprawling epically long filmmaking to Marvel Comic's not-so-jolly green giant, The Hulk.

Before its release it seemed as if everything was coming together. A stellar cast that included Eric Bana and Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly made up the leads, while a realistic-enough CG Hulk proved to gain support from the fan community. So where did things go wrong? Well, if you saw the film's opening weekend you probably spent the first 45 minutes wondering if you had stumb...

Top 10 Metrosexual Celebs

3/3/2008 2:00pm EST
Ryan Seacrest
Originating in a 1994 article by Mark Simpson, Wikipedia defines metrosexuals as: heterosexual men with a strong concern for their appearance, or whose lifestyles display attributes stereotypically seen among gay men. It wasn't until almost a decade later when a group of gay guys with an eye for straight men brought the word into the American lexicon.

Of course, Hollywood is a breeding ground for the metro community, so I give the list of the top 10 metrosexual celebrities in no particular order:

How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days
There have been many memorable onscreen pairings in the new millennium, but these couples top our list:

Playing against type, with Winslet sporting day-glo punk hairstyles and Carrey slouching with a sad hound dog face, these two captured love in all of its inglorious, impossible-to-get-along shapes. A movie that begins with two people hoping to erase all traces of each other from one another's minds potentially heralded two hours of mud slinging. Instead, Winslet and Carrey work wonders together as a c...

Academy Awards Aim To Cure 'Awards Fever' As Show Approaches With Usual Glitz And Glamor

2/24/2008 12:30pm EST
Oscar Feature
LOS ANGELES (AP) - No matter who wins, one key prediction from Academy Awards overseers already has come true: The show will go on.

It was a nail-biter for weeks as a Hollywood writers strike threatened to decimate Sunday's Oscars, with stars and filmmakers indicating they would not cross picket lines if the labor quarrel remained unsettled.

In the wake of the Golden Globes, whose celebrity bash was stripped down to a pitiful mid-January news conference because of the strike, Oscar organizers insisted their ceremony would go on as planned.

The 100-day strike ended less than t...

Why So Serious? Looking Ahead to Heath Ledger's Final Role

1/29/2008 12:33pm EST
Heath Ledger
Ask any comic book fan what their most anticipated movie is this year and I guarantee a vast majority of them will say The Dark Knight, the eagerly awaited sequel to Batman Begins. One of the reasons this film has fans excited is Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker.

From the marketing efforts thus far, we see that this Joker is far different from any film or television interpretations of the past - a much darker take surely than Jack Nicholson's role from 20 years ago. The marketing behind this movie has up until now focused mainly on the Joker, with alternate reality games encourag...

Heath Ledger: Career Full Of Artistic Risks Cut Short By Early Death; Autopsy Due

1/23/2008 8:31am EST
Heath Ledger
NEW YORK (AP) - Heath Ledger turned down more teen movies after starring in the romantic comedy ''10 Things I Hate About You,'' waiting for the kinds of grueling, intense roles that would become his trademark.

The decision set him on a career path toward ''Brokeback Mountain'' - the film that earned him an Oscar nomination.

Two years later, Ledger was found dead Tuesday by his housekeeper and masseuse - lying naked and face-down at the foot of his bed, with prescription sleeping pills nearby, police said. He was 28.

Shocked fans set up a makeshift memorial of flowers and note...

Do you ever wonder what happens to contestants who don't win when they appear on reality talent shows? Some of them still perform, such as Magni Ásgeirsson, a finalist on "Rockstar: Supernova," who still rocks out with his Icelandic band A Moti Sol.
