NEW YORK (AP) - Even though Queen Latifah is now on her second jazz album, there still some who expect her to be spitting out raps instead of singing riffs.

The world probably didn't need another film version of John Waters' 1988 romp ''Hairspray'' any more than it needed a Broadway musical version of it. The whole cycle reeks of that movie-of-a-stage-production-of-a-movie debacle that has tainted the legacy of ''The Producers.''

Sixteen years after the release of the original film, New Line Cinema is bringing a feature film adaptation of the Tony award-winning Broadway production Hairspray to life. Featuring new and original material based on John Waters' 1988 cult classic about star-struck teenagers on a local Baltimore dance show,

Queen Latifah is to star in a remake of 1984 comedy All Of Me. The original film starred Latifah's Bringing Down The House co-star Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin.
