Oscars Predictions 2015: Who Will Win, Who Should Win
The 87th Academy Awards are finally set to happen this Sunday, February 22. And with Oscar time it is also Oscar pool time, so here is a rundown of predictions of the winners in all 24 categories. Some categories (both Supporting acting fields) are easy to call, but otherwise, this looks like one of the most unpredictable Oscars in years, with a tight two-film race for Best Picture leading the way. Along with the predictions are selections of which nominees truly deserve to win and which films should have been nominated in the first place.

While most of the attention has been focused on the Grammy Awards today, the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) also took place on Sunday night. It's another precursor to the Oscars and an indicator of which films and stars may win Academy Awards.

The big winners in London were "Boyhood," "The Theory of Everything" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel."

"Boyhood" took home trophies for "Best Film," "Best Director" for Richard Linklater, and "Best Supporting Actress" for Patricia Aquette.

"Birdman" and "Orange Is The New Black" were the big winners Sunday night at the 21st Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The nominees for the 87th Academy Awards were announced on Thursday morning in Beverly Hills, Calif., where it was revealed that eight films will be competing for the honor of Best Picture this year.

Early this morning, actor Chris Pine, Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, and directors Alfonso Cuarón and J.J. Abrams announced the nominations for the 87th Academy Awards at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif.

"Birdman" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" led the list with nine nominations each. The Oscars will air live on Feb. 22.

2015 Oscar Nominations Predictions
The nominations for the 87th Annual Academy Awards will be announced early this Thursday morning, January 15. Takigng stock of all the critics’ awards and industry guild nominations that have been presented thus far makes it fairly clear who most of the favorites are. The trick here, as usual, is figuring out who will sneak into those last few spots. Patricia Arquette's film "Boyhood" is receiving criticial acclaim, but the actress didn't get a big salary for the film.

The actress was passionate about the project and knew she wouldn't get rich making it -- in fact, her babysitter and dog walker were paid more than she was during 12 years of filming.

Richard Linklater's "Boyhood," which was filmed over the course of 12 years, was one of the big winners at Sunday night's Golden Globe Awards.

'Boyhood' Arrives On DVD & Blu-ray Jan. 6

"Boyhood" tells the story of a child growing up and being raised by his parents, played by Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette, after their divorce.

Filming took place for several weeks every year for over a decade, but the ultimate shooting schedule over all this time was 39 days.

Richard Linklater wrote the script as he went, basing the story on Ellar Coltrane's real life development from childhood into young adulthood.

Coltrane was chosen from a long list of potential candidates for "Boyhood," and was cast when he was six years old.

'Boyhood' Takes Top Honors From LAFCA

"Boyhood" -- a film 12 years in the making -- has landed the Best Picture of the Year award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.

The film, which stars Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette as parents raising their son Mason (Ellar Coltrane) from the age of six until he leaves for college. The movie was filmed little by little over the years as star Coltraine really went grew up, making the film the first of its kind.

Richard Linklater picked up the Best Director award for the film, which also earned a Best Actress award for Arquette and the Film Editing trophy for Sandra Adair.

With no true rivals at the box office, it was pretty easy for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes to open at #1 at the box office - and by a wide margin.

Dawn earned $73 million over the weekend according to estimates, easily beating Transformers: Age of Extinction’s third week haul of $16.5 million. Tammy, one of the few movies to open for the July 4th weekend, dropped to third with $12.9 million. 22 Jump Street and How to Train Your Dragon 2 rounded out the top 5.
