| My Grade: (D+). My friend asked me this question after the movie ended, "What was that?" I replied, "I have no idea." "The Box" is excruciating, tedious and unwatchable. Being bored to tears dosen't even come close to summing up how we felt about this sci-fi thriller. The premise is simple enough: Turn the key. Lift the lid. Press the giant red button. Someone that you don't know will die. Collect $1 million tax-free dollars. Sounds good, but every action, has its consequences. Virginia, 1976. Arthur (James Marsden) and Norma Lewis (Cameron Diaz) are a married couple, who are facing financial difficulties. Arthur's dream of becoming an astronaut is derailed due to a failed psyche exam. Norma is a high school teacher, who finds out that her son, Walter (Sam Oz Stone), will no longer receive a tuition discount. The box which had been delivered at the beginning of the film by Arlington Steward (Frank Langella), takes center stage. Arlington is a wacky dude, who has a large crater on the left side of his disfigured face. Arlington, is clouded in mystery. The revelation that he was killed during a lightning strike, while working for NASA, and then, came back to life, only adds to the buffoonery. The box isn't complex in its design, but has a big red button on top of the wooden housing. Arthur and Norma must press the button within a 24 hour time period, or the deal is off. "The Box" is relentless with its morality issues and biblical innuendos. The back-and-forth pondering finally | ||
