Matt Damon Slams 'Bourne Ultimatum' Screenwriter, Then Apologizes

December 13th, 2011 10:26pm EST
Matt Damon
Actor Matt Damon has offered his apologies to screenwriter Tony Gilroy after taking aim at him in a new magazine interview and accusing him of submitting an "embarrassing" and "unreadable" first draft of The Bourne Ultimatum.

The Hollywood star aired his grievances about the third spy installment during a recent chat with GQ magazine, during which he chastised Gilroy for allegedly failing to pen a script worthy of the Bourne franchise.

According to Damon, the Michael Clayton writer struck a deal with movie bosses at Universal that allowed him to land a hefty paycheck for submitting one dr...

A scheduling conflict forced Matt Damon to turn down the chance to be part of the most successful film ever made - he said no to Avatar.

The actor admits he was in talks with director James Cameron to take the lead in the 2009 sci-fi epic but there wasn't enough time for him to take on the project in between The Bourne Ultimatum and The Green Zone.

He reveals, "I talked to Cameron and I read the script and I knew the movie was gonna be a big hit. I really wanted to do Avatar and work with Jim Cameron and watch him direct and learn a lot.

"But we were finishing The Bourne Ultimatum and I ...

Angelina Jolie Is Pale In Paris

August 18th, 2010 3:30pm EDT
Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie looked a little pale at the Paris premiere of her action flick "Salt" on Tuesday. Speaking of salt, she kinda looks a little salty herself. Would 'old and crotchety' be going too far? Promoting films must be hard work!

No sign of Brad at the French premiere, but Angie says the couple makes sure to schedule "date nights" because she's convinced a little bit of romance will help hold their relationship together.

The actress carefully plans time away from their six children so they can be together as a couple - even if it only means sneaking off to another corner of their hous...

Matt Damon's Jason Bourne character is heading back to the big screen without Matt Damon.

Universal Pictures movie bosses are reportedly moving forward with plans for a fourth installment to the "Bourne" franchise, even though Damon has made it clear he'll only return as the on-the-run hitman if director Paul Greengrass, who made the last two films, signs up to make the movie.

Tony Gilroy, who penned the screenplays to all three "Bourne" films, has agreed to work on a fourth film, tentatively titled "The Bourne Legacy," according to Daily Variety.

Now that it looks as if the interminable "Saw" franchise has run out of gas after its sixth chapter, we can turn our attention to sequels that we'd really like to see, and what the odds are of them actually being produced.

ANCHORMAN 2: This is the biggie that most comedy fans would love to see. Star Will Ferrell and director Adam McKay have danced around the sequel for years, tantalizing fans with potential story ideas, fake titles and other tidbits, but nothing seems to be concrete. Still, the phenomenal popularity of the first film would make it a slam dunk, box-office smash. And, as ...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'The Informant,' 'Jennifer's Body' & More

September 14th, 2009 9:32am EDT
The Informant
Last week, the long weekend gave me a chance to see "District 9" in the movie theater. The film's science fiction elements took a back seat to its moral objective however, which was roughly to serve as an allegory for the Apartheid in South Africa.

Treatment of the aliens by humans, as a subhuman species really becomes emotionally jarring through the intense blood and gore that comprise the latter half of the movie. Audiences ultimately walk away from "District 9" disgusted by the inhumanity of the human race.

A nontraditional narrative, "District 9" is largely told through the use ...

August Can Be A Viable Movie Month Despite Its Reputation

August 12th, 2009 5:01pm EDT
The Bourne Ultimatum
While Hollywood has staked out late May, June and July as prime summer movie territory, August has gotten lost in the shuffle. August isn't as big of a dump month as September or January, but you usually don't find studios queuing up to put their surefire tent pole smashes there.

With summer winding down, younger audiences are turning their attentions back to school, families are getting in one final vacation, and cooler weather in some regions are all valid reasons why studios feel like box office for their mega-budgeted pictures would be affected by an August release.

Which leaves...

'Heroes' Crashes and Burns

February 3rd, 2009 2:02pm EST
Heroes
Paul Greengrass must have designed the sloppy first episode of the new "Heroes" Chapter because they borrowed the cinematography from "The Bourne Ultimatum" and they really should give it back. NBC is apparently hurting for money and it looks as if they cut the budget for this floundering show. In response the writers decided to cut as much dialog and character development as possible and insert clichéd action sequences in which the heroes are captured by HRG backed by Nathan Petrelli. To further stretch the dwindling funds they also shot everything through a pinhole camera and succeeded in...
