'Blue Valentine' Director Condemns Hollywood Gun Violence As 'Fetishized'

4/18/2013 4:35pm EDT
Derek Cianfrance
Derek Cianfrance director of the 2010 Sundance hit, Blue Valentine has publicly announced his distaste for Hollywood's use of excessive graphic violence, calling moviemakers "irresponsible" for portraying onscreen use of guns as "cool."

Constant debate has raged over how guns are, or should be, portrayed in movies, sparked by the tragedy that happened in Newtown, Conn., last December when 20 children and six adults died after they were gunned down at the Sandy Hook elementary school. Since then, politicians and many others have taken  sides on the reignited gun control debate - a debate t...

This highly anticipated movie may change Ryan’s career and send him to the top of the Hollywood Food Chain.

How Ryan Gosling Resurrected The Movie Star

9/14/2011 11:00am EDT
Movie critics, driven to understandable cynicism by the onslaught of unnecessary remakes (there is no reason for another "Footloose") and re-imaginings of every superhero from the Green Lantern to a hammer-wielding Norse god, have declared the movie star extinct.  I think the stellar year actor Ryan Gosling, 30, is having is inspiring proof that the existence of the movie star in this entertainment climate is still possible.

For this lover of pop culture, a movie star is more than someone who makes a lot of films and walks a lot of red carpets.  It’s Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman,” “Th...

Some Very Hot On-Screen Pairings

7/23/2011 8:30am EDT
Friends With Benefits
In honor of Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis’ new movie Friends With Benefits, we thought we’d take a look at other hot on-screen couples. It’s hard enough to look at Mila Kunis without getting completely jealous of her looks (girls) or getting turned on (guys), but pair her with uber-hottie Justin Timberlake and it’s almost too much for the silver screen. Here are a few more hot couples that were paired together to create some “good looking” films.

Dirty Dancing- What do you get when you add Patrick Swayze in tights, a few watermelons and Jennifer Grey’s gyrating hips? Dancing that is alm...

The Oscar Nominations: Surprises, Snubs And Flubs

1/25/2011 10:48pm EST
The King's Speech
As reported earlier, the Oscar nominations were announced this morning. As in recent years, everything went according to plan. There were a few surprise inclusions, but most of them weren’t shocking. And the snubs weren’t too surprising either.

‘The King’s Speech’ led with 12 nominations, more than most predicted. ‘True Grit’ was close behind with a strong 10 – an astonishing turnaround from its ridiculous zero nominations at the Golden Globes – while ‘The Social Network’ trailed with a somewhat disappointing 8 nominations.

Joel and Ethan Coen of ‘True Grit’ likely edged out Christo...

She tells Reuters, "When we shot that scene, both Ryan and (director) Derek (Cianfrance) said to me, 'If this bothers you when you see it in the movie, we'll tak...

Two of Gosling's latest films - Blue Valentine and All Good Things - will hit theatres in the U.S. this month and the simultaneous releases have left him with a sense of dread.

He tells the Los Angeles Times, "I try not to make too many movies. I get sick of myself, so I can imagine how everyone else feels. And for the two to come out at the same time, it makes me feel sick."

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies - 'Blue Valentine' & 'Another Year'

12/27/2010 10:00am EST
Blue Valentine
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and received some excellent presents. The gift I received that I’m the most excited about, is a Blu-ray player. I can’t wait to see some awesome HD movies with it like “Kick Ass,” “Inception,” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.”

As part of yearly tradition, my family watched our good old VHS copy of “A Christmas Story.” It amazes me how this film has become so ingrained in our popular culture, and that it’s shown for 24 hours straight on TNT. Often I can’t believe that I can watch it every year without tiring of it, but I tend to keep a sentimen...

"Blue Valentine" co-stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams have brushed off many rumors that they're dating. But on a recent appearance for "ABC News Nightline," it looked otherwise.

They exchanged long glances, and Gosling, who also called Michelle a "sexy cowboy" in the interview, whistled as if to pretend he didn't hear the question. Williams couldn't stop smiling. Gosling put his arm around Michelle, who shook her head "no" with a broad, mysterious grin.

So either Ryan and Michelle are really good at promoting thei...

'Blue Valentine' Goes From NC-17 To Rated R

12/9/2010 8:25am EST
Blue Valentine
The producers of Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams' controversial new film "Blue Valentine" have won their fight to land the movie a softer rating.

Censors at the Motion Picture Association of America ruled that some of the film's scenes were too racy for an R rating and suggested "Blue Valentine" should be released as a restrictive NC-17 movie.

Producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein fought the rating and they have won their battle - the film will be released as an R with all its scenes intact. The new ruling now means the movie could be released to more theatres.

Ryan Gosling Furious Over 'Blue Valentine's' NC-17 Rating For Oral Scene

12/8/2010 8:24am EST
Ryan Gosling
Ryan Gosling has accused film censors of sexual sexism after ratings officials slapped his film "Blue Valentine" with a restrictive NC-17 rating for an oral sex scene, while playing down a similar racy moment in Natalie Portman's new film "Black Swan."

The star admits he's "surprised and confused" by the hard rating and he can't understand why Portman's girl-on-girl oral sex didn't attract a similar ruling.

He tells WENN, "There's plenty of oral sex scenes in a lot of movies, where it's a man receiving it from a woman - and they're R-rated. Ours is reversed and somehow it's perceived as p...

11/8/2010 8:22am EST
Michelle Williams
Michelle Williams is urging producers not to edit her harrowing new film "Blue Valentine" in order to get the movie a better rating because she'd prefer cinemagoers saw it as it was intended.

Officials at the Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Rating Administration have awarded the movie a restrictive NC-17 rating because of a drunken sex scene featuring Williams and her co-star Ryan Gosling.

Producer Harvey Weinstein is challenging the movie censors' over the ban for under-17s, and an appeal hearing will take place later this month.
