Bite Me! Review
Bite Me! seems like a cult movie waiting to happen: the story's combination of mutant bugs and strippers in peril promises equal helpings of flesh and monster-mash antics and the title hints at a pleasingly irreverent sense of humor under the cheap thrills. Unfortunately, Bite Me! rarely delivers on its kitschy promise. The main culprit is the sloppy work of writer/director Brett_Leonard; his script is burdened with an overabundance of talky, self-conscious "comedy" dialogue and his direction lacks the pacing and the visual invention necessary to make the premise fun. Lead actresses Misty_Mundae, Erica Brown, and Caitlin Ross are all charming and acquit themselves well, but the rest of cast delivers performances that are either shrill or amateurish. It all adds up to a film that tries all too hard to be a cult movie and unfortunately lacks the cinematic smarts and energy to pull the task off. As a result, even the most patient of B-movie fans will find Bite Me! to be a dismal slog. Donald Guarisco, Rovi
