Best of 2011 - Jason Coleman's Top Ten Films

12/30/2011 3:20pm EST
The Skin I Live In Photo
2011’s crop of movies had its fare share of interesting ups and downs. On the down side, it’s a year of movies with a ton of potential that for, one reason or another, ended up disappointing due to various bad elements. There were actor/director re-teaming’s brought down by bad casting (Jessica Chastain, terrific in "The Help," proved totally out of place in the Michael Shannon/Jeff Nichols flick "Take Shelter") and annoying characters (wish they could just excise Carey Mulligan’s annoying sister from the Steve McQueen/Michael Fassbender flick "Shame" – and leave the rest!), not to mentio...

Best of 2011 - Top Ten Movie Posters

12/28/2011 8:10am EST
Poster header
For those like myself with a finer cinematic palate, movie posters have always been a true form of artistic expression and their display is no different then hanging a fine framed painting. So with 2011 now coming to an end, what did this year’s crop of one-sheets have to offer the film fan? Complete with cool flicks with crappy posters, bad films with tasty artwork and even bitter hobos who’ve had enough, we’re starting our year end coverage by taking a peak back at the most memorable movie one-sheets for the year – plus some of the biggest blunders as well! Welcome to our...

'Bellflower' Screening Week #2 - Jessie Wiseman Interview

12/6/2011 8:00am EST
In anticipation of the destined-to-be-memorable upcoming midnight screening of "Bellflower" this Friday, Dec. 9 at the Regency Academy 6 in Pasadena, California, we’re keeping the week-long tribute going! Up today is a previous one-on-one interview with a gal I sincerely consider to be one amazing actress to watch for. Putting to shame all former preconceived stereotypes of women in both film and Hollywood, this gal is adding fresh talent to a dwindling craft just when it needed her. It would be ‘wise’ not to dismiss the captivating presence of lovely "Bellflower" actress…

Blu-ray Review: 'Bellflower' + Early Screening Announcement For Pasadena California!

11/15/2011 12:15pm EST
Bellflower photo
Ready to see check out one of the films that’s already carved out a firm place on my Top Ten list for 2011? Hitting Blu-ray and DVD Nov. 15 from the cinema loving folks over at Oscilloscope Laboratories, comes the original film "Bellflower" which is a must see for any film fan. (Plus the extras are equally engaging!) But for those who still have the need to view the films various apocalyptic trinkets (including homemade flamethrower and 1972 muscle car Medusa!) on the big screen in it’s lush Scope format, there’s also an early midnight screening announcement below – this five-star flower...

Five Actresses 'To Watch For'

8/10/2011 6:00pm EDT
Vinessa Shaw
There’s a current stigma that says young actresses of today don’t have the goods. That acting greats like Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor and Meryl Streep are simply a thing of the past - I say meet five exceptions. And while there are a ton of up and coming actresses currently working in film, these ladies are a handful of hopefuls who have managed to stay engrained in the brain with possibly only one or two striking performances under their ample belts. This is a group of gals who deserve to be seen more (aka give them more projects!) and we at Starpulse feel possess the ability to deliv...

'Bellflower' Week - Interview Evan Glodell - The Boyfriend

8/5/2011 8:12am EDT
Evan Glodell photo
As the writer, director and lead actor of the powerful new film "Bellflower," Evan Glodell is a cinematic force to be reckoned with. Taking intense real-life ideas from his own past and mixing them with a serious dose of high-powered nitroglycerin, Glodell has ended up making one unique and potent piece of celluloid. The film is in contrast to the mild-mannered Glodell himself, a humble guy who always seems like he doesn’t want to toot his own horn. (I’ll do it for him – five star work sir!) Finishing our 'Bellflower Week' with a bang, Starpulse sat down one-on-one with the normally gua...

'Bellflower' Week - Interview Jessie Wiseman - The Girlfriend

8/4/2011 8:07am EDT
Jessie Wiseman photo
If a handmade flamethrower represents the emotional madness felt by the betrayed leading man in "Bellflower," then actress Jessie Wiseman’s complex character Milly is definitely the savage spark that ignites the torch. As the beautiful yet troubled woman who entrances and then enrages Writer/Director Even Glodell’s unsuspecting character Woodrow, Wiseman is nothing short of a wonder to watch. In a role that forces Wiseman to physically and emotionally go to bold extremes, the up and coming actress takes to the challenge like a duck to water. (And this water is far from clean folks!) Wit...

'Bellflower' Week - Interview Tyler Dawson - The Best Friend

8/3/2011 1:22pm EDT
Tyler Dawson Photo
As the best friend to Evan Glodell’s sweet but disturbed character Woodrow, actor Tyler Dawson has the thankless job of being "Bellflower’s" voice of reason. As Aiden, the caring and concerned confidant of the recently turned emotionally unstable Woodrow, Dawson brings to the explosive Bellflower a performance laced with natural compassion and genuine warmth that truly grounds the film. We continue our ‘Bellflower Week’ with some one-on-one interview time with Dawson, who talks about his reaction upon first reading the script, the intense relationship bond between Aiden and Woodrow and re...

'Bellflower' Week - The Review

8/2/2011 12:22pm EDT
Bellflower photo
Handmade flamethrowers, suped-up cars and post apocalyptic fandom. All elements do indeed inhabit the hyper-real world of "Bellflower," but it’s essentially not what the film is about. Buried deep inside the machismo, cool gadgets and Road Warrior villain Humungous worship is a simple story of a wonderful blossoming relationship gone awry and it’s where the engine revving "Bellflower" gets it’s true five-star movie muscle from.

Woodrow is a guy who spends his time in the fantasy of a Road Warrior inspired life by building Mad Max-esk items like flamerthrowers and barren land vehicles wit...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes,' 'The Change-Up,' & More

8/1/2011 9:39am EDT
Planet of the Apes
I was anxiously anticipating last week’s “Cowboys & Aliens,” hoping that it would effectively mix action and humor in the same way as director Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man” films. Favreau takes a more serious approach though, creating a stiff western that happens to include science fiction elements. While his idea is admirable, the movie is marred by poorly written dialogue and slow pacing. For more of my thoughts, check out my review.

Coming to theaters this week are the sci-fi prequel “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” the body swapping comedy “The Change-Up,” the international drama “The ...
