July 4th, 2012 10:30am EDT
Amelia
On Tuesday, the Discovery Channel and The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR) departed from Honolulu to search for evidence of Amelia Earhart's long-lost Lockheed Electra aircraft.

"The search for answers in the Earhart mystery has been a decades-long passion for all the members of TIGHAR," said Richard Gillespie, TIGHAR Executive Director & Expedition Leader. "The exhaustive research leading up to today's departure gives us great hope that the Niku VII7 expedition will provide conclusive answers in the search for Earhart’s final landing place."

The on-board activ...

Hilary Swank & Mira Nair Talk 'Amelia'

October 23rd, 2009 11:41am EDT
Amelia
Last Friday the Essex County Airport in New Jersey hosted an event for Mira Nair's new film, 'Amelia.' It was here that the 73 year old Lockheed Electra airplane used during the filming of 'Amelia' sat glistening in a bright new hanger like a ghost out on a beach. The Electra was stunning to see up close and truly makes one realize just how strong willed (and a little nutty) one must have been to attempt to fly such a craft around the world much the way Amelia Earhart tried in 1937. Think about it; when these planes were built there were no commercial forms of airplane travel, no comput...

Review: 'Amelia' Displays Stunning Cinematography But Storyline Is Dry & Lacking

October 22nd, 2009 10:21am EDT
Amelia
The new Hilary Swank, Richard Gere led film, 'Amelia,' is a tale of two films. The cast is stellar and the cinematography is simply wonderful; unfortunately something is awry with the script since the film is entirely too long, dry and lacking when it comes to an interesting or an in depth storyline between the two lead characters of Amelia Earhart (played by Hilary Swank) and her husband/man behind the career, George Putnam (played by Richard Gere).

The film covers only the most basic portions of Earhart and Putnam's time together in saying that they were in an open marriage and busin...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Saw VI,' 'Vampire's Assistant' & More

Cirque du Freak
Last Tuesday, I had a chance to see "Where the Wild Things Are." Visually the film is stunning; it integrates handheld camera shots in the appropriate moments to take viewers into the action. Jim Henson's Creature Shop makes the monsters of the movie look incredibly convincing, and the composite animation of their faces matches up well.

Spike Jonze and Dave Eggers do a fantastic job of stretching a 10 page children's book into a movie that doesn't distort the message of the book, but still gives audiences something fresh. One of the most fascinating aspects of the creatures the hero M...

Richard Gere poses with a dog on the red carpet to present the movie "Hachiko: A Dog's Story" at the Rome Film Festival in Rome today. See more photos after the jump.

Gere said that he "cried like a baby" when he read the script of his new movie, a remake based on a cherished Japanese story about a faithful dog that died at a train station waiting for its owner. Gere stars as the college professor who finds the abandoned dog and takes the poor lost animal in. The film follows the two as the man and animal soon form a strong and unexplainable bond.

Gere also stars in the upcoming "Amel...

2009 Fall Movie Previews
With summer coming to an end, there's one major thing to consider: what's going to be entertaining for the next three months? We assume you're thinking the same thing (great minds being alike and all), so here's the rundown of what Hollywood has coming:

Gamer (09/04/09)

Director: Mark Neveldine, Brian Taylor

Starring: Gerard Butler, Michael C. Hall

Gamer will be one of the coolest movies of the season because it actually manages to bring a fairly new concept to the action genre. In the near future, with mind control technology pretty much commonplace, billionaire Ken Castle (Michael...
