Sometimes the task of getting people to flock to the movie theatres during the summer months can be tricky, as some would rather soak up the rays from the sun instead of those coming from the projector. But if the soothing sensation of a cool, dark room isn't enough to attract the audience, what is? Here's a recap of this summer's hits and misses at the box office.

The season kicked off big time with "The Avengers," which brought in a record $207.4 million during its first weekend. Performances by stars such as Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson brought life to Iron Man,...

With The Amazing Spider-Man doing well critically and in box offices, it's time to think about the upcoming sequel - it's obvious one is coming, anyway. What could be in store for Andrew Garfield's Spidey? Let's take a look at some possible villains for the next films.

The Lizard is still around, although he's still in a jail cell. What keeps The Lizard around is his mental instability and a lust for perfection - just because he was given an antidote doesn't mean he won't try to continue his research, or regain the immense power he had before. He could appear late in a film to further comp...

5 Reasons Why 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Is Better Than Its Predecessor

July 9th, 2012 12:30pm EDT
Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man
As a critic of all things entertainment, it’s my job to make quick, black-and-white decisions. So when it was announced that Sony was rebooting its Spider-Man franchise just five years after the Tobey Maguire fronted “Spider-Man 3” swung its way into theaters, I wasn’t just skeptical, I was downright livid. It seemed like nothing more than a movie studio’s desperate money grab, creative integrity be damned.

After being somewhat softened by the four-minute trailer, I’m happy to admit that I am a full-on marshmallow after seeing the “The Amazing Spider-Man,” and have never been more gratef...

For Garfield, playing Spider-Man and his alter ego was a lot like his Tony Award nominated performance on stage in Death of a Salesman.

“There's not much difference, weirdly enough,” Garfield said. “In terms of how I approached it, my only intention was to honor the character. That goes for Biff Loman as well as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. So my approach was the same, just from my heart and guts. I got very upset ...

Review: 'The Amazing Spider Man' Is Not All That Amazing -- But It Is Very Good

July 1st, 2012 12:30pm EDT
'The Amazing Spider-Man'
The Amazing Spider-Man, shot in 3D and directed by Mark Webb (500 Days of Summer), is an edgy, emotional, action pack, and at times boring movie. Yes I did use the 'b' word.

In this version, which is definitely an improvement over all the 'Spider-Man' films, we meet Peter Parker (Max Charles) as a young boy. His renowned scientist father (Campbell Scott) and his mother fear that they're family is in danger and they decide to leave Peter in the care of his Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and Aunt May (Sally Field).

We flash forward years later...Peter (Andrew Garfield) is now a skateboarder/scien...

New 'Amazing Spider-Man' Trailer Digs Into Mythology

The new Amazing Spider-Man trailer may create more questions instead of answering them, thanks to a focus on the mythology behind Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) becoming Spider-Man.

Almost all of us know the classic take on how Peter got his powers - he was bitten by a radioactive spider. However, over the last few decades, writers have created their own spin on why he was bitten by a radioactive spider. For example, one of the greatest story arcs ("Coming Home"), it is suggested that the spider that gave Peter his powers (like a vampire or a werewolf would) and the radiation was simply go...

First Look: 'Amazing Spider-Man' Baddie Rhys Ifans Is the Lizard King!

It's one of the fundamental laws of modern movie making: A superhero film is only as good as its villain. "The Dark Knight'"s Joker? Great. "Thor'"s Loki? Good. "Green Lantern's" grumpy space smog? Yeah, not so much.

Quick refresher course in case you flunked out of Introduction to Spider-Man: The Lizard, who is played by Rhys Ifans, is actually benevolent scientist Dr. Curt Connors. In the film, he's a former comrade of Peter Parker's father, which mak...

The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers look to score over $400 million each and should be boosted with IMAX and 3D premiums. Thus far, The Avengers have already made $218 million overseas.
