The work of revered film preservationist Henri Langois, who is largely responsible for saving France's film heritage, is chronicled in this documentary. Langois and Georges Franju formed the Cinémathèque Française in 1936, and because of his work, French cinema survived World War II. When the Minister of Culture tried to replace Langois in 1968, it resulted in riots in Paris, Francois Truffaut closed the Cannes Film Festival, and filmmakers around the world protested. Langois' accomplishments are seen in clips from films he preserved and he is seen in interview footage.
