Director Martin Scorsese has successfully managed to score the canine star of his movie Hugo a nomination for a Golden Collar Award.

Scorsese wrote an open letter to the Los Angeles Times complaining about Blackie's snub, insisting his furry friend was just as deserving for a nomination as Uggie the Jack Russell, who has been recognized twice for his work in "The Artist" and "Water fo...

Seth Rogen Feared Audiences Wouldn't Take Him Seriously In '50/50'

November 27th, 2011 11:00am EST
Seth Rogen
Comedy actor Seth Rogen worried about filming serious scenes in cancer movie 50/50 in case his dramatic performance came across as "false."

Rogen plays the best friend of a sick man, portrayed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and several parts of the movie take on a sombre tone.

But the Knocked Up star feared his past roles would make cinema goers doubt his sincerity.

He tells Sky News, "The serious scenes scared me a lot more than the comedy scenes. There are some scenes that are not played for laughs... and I was much more worried about that than the comedic scenes.

"Those had a lot more pote...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Real Steel,' 'The Ides Of March,' & More

October 3rd, 2011 11:00am EDT
Real Steel
If you haven’t had the opportunity to read my Seth Rogen interview from last week for “50/50,” you should definitely check it out.

The film itself is one of the best this year; definitely worth watching. It impressively handles a dark subject like cancer by making light of it with humor. To label “50/50” as a straight comedy though is disrespectful to what a poignant story it is, because it also remains sensitive to immense difficulty of coping with such a serious disease.

In this way, Seth Rogen’s sarcastic jokes are well balanced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s uptight, neurotic character...

'Dolphin Tale' Flips To Top Of Weekend Box Office

October 3rd, 2011 8:32am EDT
Dolphin Tale
Family drama "Dolphin Tale" has stunned movie experts in America by landing at the top of the box office in its second week on release.

The surprise hit, about a dolphin with a prosthetic fin, has netted over $37 million in 10 days - more than most film pundits expected the Harry Connick, Jr. movie to make in its entire run.

With takings of over $14 million from its second weekend on release, the film toppled "The Lion King 3D" and stepped ahead of Brad Pitt's baseball drama "Moneyball" to claim the top spot.

Cancer comedy "50/50" landed the highest debut at four with $8.8 million.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's '50/50' Head Shaving Scene Was Improvised

September 30th, 2011 2:00pm EDT
Movie 50 50
The posters for the new movie 50/50 already give away one of the major scenes. Joseph Gordon-Levitt shaves his head on camera. He plays a man coping with a cancer in which he has a 50 percent chance of surviving. Seth Rogen plays his supportive friend, and as the film’s producer joked about the iconic scene.

“We did it twice, six months apart,” Rogen said while doing press at the Toronto International Film Festival. “Yeah, we only could do that once and we improvised it for the most part, which could’ve been the stupidest thing anyone’s ever done because we really could only do it once.”

Q&A: Seth Rogen & Will Reiser Talk '50/50,' Head Shaving & Self Improvement

September 29th, 2011 2:00pm EDT
50 50
Hollywood doesn’t generally show young people dealing with cancer, especially not 20-somethings like Adam (Joseph Gordon-Levitt). And if it’s going to explore such a serious topic, it’s almost certainly not going to make light of the situation like “50/50.”

Adam doesn’t drink, he doesn’t smoke, and he definitely doesn’t do drugs. It comes as a huge surprise then, when he is diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and told he has a 50 percent chance of beating it. To brave the fight, Adam must lean on his best friend Kyle (Seth Rogen), who seems more interested in picking up women and ...

Seth Rogen Calls Barbra Streisand Mom, Dumps Yvonne Strahovsky In 'My Mother's Curse'

September 28th, 2011 3:00pm EDT
Seth Rogen in My Mothers Curse
Seth Rogen has had many comedy costars: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill, James Franco. Next he has a true diva. Barbra Streisand plays his mother in My Mother’s Curse. Not many people get to call Babs mom.

“I didn’t call her that that often but it was great,” Rogen said while promoting this week’s new release 50/50 at the Toronto International Film Festival. “We actually worked very well together I think. It was a lot like Joe [Gordon-Levitt] in that she really was into being a comedy team. She really embraced the idea that it was a buddy comedy with a mother and son.”

The duo goes on...

'50/50' Review: 'Two Jews On Film' Cheer This Beautiful Heartfelt Dramedy' (Video)

A doctor tells a young man he has cancer - a tumor. The man replies 'Tumor...Me?' The doctor says 'yes'. The man responds...'That's impossible...I don't smoke...I don't drink...I recycle.'

The young man is Adam Lerner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and he not only has cancer...but he has a super rare cancer...a giant tumor growing along his spine and his chances are...50-50.

So what does a person do with this kind of news? Well, writer Will Reiser, the real life person that this happened to, turned his life threatening disease, into a very funny, very touching and very beautiful movie entitled...

Review: Equal Parts Storytelling And Acting Give Powerful '50/50' Real Resonance

September 26th, 2011 6:00pm EDT
50/50 photo
I recently spotted an ad for "50/50" which proudly proclaimed 'brought to you by the guys who did Superbad' – bad move. Not that there isn’t some Seth Rogen-esk humor within or some amusing levity brought to the morose subject of cancer, but the true impact behind the brilliance of "50/50" lies in its drama.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Adam, a young man who has a great life, good friends and a wonderful girlfriend. But at the early age of twenty-seven he finds his life altered virtually overnight when he is suddenly diagnosed with cancer. It’s proves to be a whole new world for Adam w...

Trailer Talk: This Week in Movies 50/50
After hearing all the hype about “Drive,” I couldn’t believe how much I hated it. It starts out promising: director Nicolas Winding Refn has some cool backseat perspectives of the driver (Ryan Gosling), and a sleek electronic soundtrack gives his shots of LA a seedy, neon glow.

However the directing quickly becomes pretentious, since Refn frequently reuses the same types of shots. Then the 80s style pop starts to feel COMPLETELY wrong, especially when you’re hit by unexpected, excessive violence on screen. These things would be more tolerable though, if the film effectively built drama...

Trailer Talk: This Week In Movies - 'Moneyball,' 'Abduction,' & More

Moneyball
Last week I didn’t screen any new movies, but I had a chance to conduct some awesome interviews. I talked with Jonah Hill on Monday about his role in “Moneyball” and Seth Rogen on Wednesday for his upcoming film “50/50.” Look out this week for my Jonah Hill interview and the next for mine with Seth Rogen.

Hollywood loves movies inspired by true stories this week, since they represent four of the six opening in theaters. You’ll have the opportunity to see the Brad Pitt baseball vehicle “Moneyball,” the Taylor Lautner espionage thriller “Abduction,” the Gerard Butler redemption tale “Mac...

Shocking And Funny New '50/50' Movie Poster!

July 13th, 2011 1:30pm EDT
50/50 poster
With a poster that's as shocking and funny as the film itself, the new cancer themed dramatic comedy "50/50" has a new one sheet and it's a trip indeed. The movie, which stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a man who finds out he has cancer, is a clever mix of serious drama with bits of humor to add levity. (See Seth Rogen!) The flick also stars Anna Kendrick as Gordon-Levitt's counselor, Bryce Dallas Howard as his girlfriend and features a stand-out performance by the mighty Anjelica Huston as his over-protective mother. (Her best work since "The Grifters!") In any case the film does bring b...
