Best/Worst Movies Of Katherine Heigl

October 22nd, 2010 2:54pm EDT
Knocked-Up-movie-17.jpg
Katherine Heigl is a well known actress now, but earlier in her career she struggled to find the right films to get involved with. It was really television acting that helped her climb the ranks of popularity, from the sci-fi drama Roswell and then eventually the multiple Emmy award-winning show Grey's Anatomy. It was after gaining a lot of recognition for that show as Izzie Stevens that she got offered a big role in Judd Apatow's new film Knocked Up, and her career just took off from there. Although her newest movie has not been doing exceptionally well, Heigl is still in the spotlight. Sh...

James Marsden
There aren't that many former Versace models that can say their acting careers really managed to take off, but after fifteen years in the business James Marsden is finally starting to gain notice. With his movie star good looks and cheeky smile, it is only surprising it took so long! In 2000, Marsden first got blockbuster attention in "X-Men" as Cyclops, but he also found favor with audiences for his side roles in "The Notebook," "Hairspray," and "Enchanted." Last year he got a leading role in the hit romantic comedy "27 Dresses," and starting last week he stars in the dramatic thriller "Th...

Actors Who Have Transitioned From TV To Film

August 25th, 2009 10:00am EDT
Jennifer Garner
For some actors, it is hard to make the crucial transition into film as a television star. Especially if you are typecast as a certain character and most people can't think of you as anyone else (for example, Matt LeBlanc as Joey on Friends). Television actors put their careers on the line when they leave their steady jobs to branch out into the film world, and they either make it or they don't. Here are the top television stars who managed to hold their own in the film world.

Will Smith- Before he was one of the top A-list movie stars, Will Smith was known as the Banks' troublemaking co...

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?

June 15th, 2009 9:02am EDT
Year One
I finally got around to seeing "Terminator Salvation," and I must admit I wasn't terribly impressed. Overall the film was better than "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines," but that doesn't say a whole lot because "T3" was pretty bad. Sam Worthington and Anton Yelchin were great, while Christian Bale gave an okay performance. I was expecting a more epic movie considering all its hype.

This week there are five films premiering: "Year One," "The Proposal," "Whatever Works," "Food Inc," and "Dead Snow." There are three I think are worth seeing, and two I think you should wait to rent.

Starpulse's Explosive Summer Movie Preview

May 1st, 2009 10:06am EDT
Star Trek
Since the dawn of the American cinematic blockbuster in the late 1970s and early 1980s, moviegoers have eagerly waited for May - the unofficial beginning of summertime. This summer is no different. Films, and most popular media, are social mirrors, and this summer season supports that. The large box office contenders all deal with very similar themes: escapism and the support of the lone, outlaw hero figure (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Up, Transformers 2, Public Enemies, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, Inglourious Basterds, et...

Early Oscar Predictions

September 12th, 2008 10:29am EDT
The Dark Knight
With today's release of the Coen Brothers' "Burn After Reading" we can officially declare Oscar season open.

The movie has everything that Oscar loves: big stars who are actually good actors (three of them Oscar winners), an Oscar pedigree team behind the scenes, and a release in the fall. While this broad comedy may not exactly be Oscar bait, it does serve as a good line of demarcation between films released purely for profit and those released to win awards (and mostly to make money).

Even though a large majority of awards contenders are released in the fall, there are always a...

Katherine Heigl
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) - Katherine Heigl is sticking with "Grey's Anatomy" despite voicing displeasure about last season's script quality, the network's programming chief said.

Heigl's previous comments raised speculation that she might want to leave the ABC medical drama - rumors that ABC Entertainment President Stephen McPherson sought to dispel. "She's absolutely staying with the show. There's an unbelievable story line for her this year, which is really central to everything that's going to go on this season," he told a meeting of the Television Critics Association on Wednesday...

Made of Honor
TV actors often try to parlay their small-screen fame into big-screen success. Some, like George Clooney, hit the jackpot. Others falter in the transition, but you can't fault them for trying. Here's a sampling of where in the cinema you can currently find some of TV's stars and rental picks for the Netflix-addicted.

Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy) - In a departure from his more dramatic roles on TV in "Grey's Anatomy" and a guest stint on Once and Again, Dempsey has focused on romantic comedies in his film career recently. He's been charming audiences alongside Amy Adams in Enchanted...
