November 26th, 2009 9:44am EST
2009
As with every year there are dozens of great movies but there are even more really bad ones. 2009 will be marked by Quentin Tarantino and Sacha Baron Cohen comebacks along with a bevy of bad movies, highlighted by Megan Fox's performance in Jennifer's Body. There were plenty of good movies and we may have the most fun making fun of the bad and helpless ones, but let's take a look at the best movies of 2009.

Most blockbuster movies are filled with overrated stars (i.e. Will Smith and Tom Cruise) and are seemingly contrived, made only to make money. Thankfully this year there were not as ...

Zac Efron: The Next Leonardo DiCaprio Or Corey Feldman?

May 14th, 2009 9:30am EDT
Zac Efron
In theory, being a teen heartthrob seems like a pretty sweet gig. They never have to wait for tables at restaurants, they have throngs of adoring fans, and they get to date gorgeous models and actresses. Basically, they are given a first class ticket for life, which means more leg room, no middle seats, and cashews instead of peanuts.

But as appetizing as all that sounds, teen heartthrobdom isn't all that it's cracked up to be. It can be a dicey business that often comes at a hefty price because it doesn't guarantee that the ensuing path will be paved quite as goldenly as the yellow b...

Things aren't exactly easy for him, especially since the trends have changed, he has to make all new friends, and he is in high school with his children. While the story is slightly different from other body-swapping movies, the general concept is the same. Here ...

Matt 'Saved' On 'American Idol;' See The Power Rankings

April 16th, 2009 8:43am EDT
American Idol
"American Idol" proves once again that it is the greatest money machine on television. We got the requisite Ford video last night along with what amounted to an extended trailer for "17 Again." It was certainly cool to see the contestants soak up their first bit of Hollywood glamour while they're still less than jaded, but you wonder how much cash the studio dropped on "Idol" to get them at their premiere. It's just insane how well they use product placement on this show and they even manage to make it a bit subtle. Unlike the already infamous "90210" Dr. Pepper commercial, er, episode....

Dear Zac Efron,

Rather than Twittering, updating our blogs with lots of OMGs, XOXOXOs, and exclamation points (!!!!!), or do whatever else it is your tween fans do these days, we thought we'd take the time and break out the vintage letter format.

All eyes are on you as '17 Again' hits theaters this weekend. This is your chance to solidify your status as leading man…or go the way of so many other fallen teen idols only to end up on some crappy VH1 show where you battle your alcoholism and inner demons at age 41.

Honestly we're not that psyched about the movie itself ('Peggy...

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?

April 13th, 2009 8:57am EDT
17 Again
I must admit that two weeks ago, I grossly underestimated how popular "Fast & Furious" would be. The film captured the title of highest grossing opening weekend for a car-themed movie by taking in $72.5 million. I think it's important to note this, because I believe I'm an excellent judge of movies, but I admit the movies I recommend will not always reflect the average American movie patron's opinion.

STATE OF PLAY

Things seem to be perfect for up-and-coming U.S. congressman Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck), until the murder of his research assistant and mistress. It becomes ...

Before we get started on the Mega Oscar Diary, let's go to a few random ramblings from the cadre of pre-shows around the dial:

-Philip Seymour Hoffman's hat probably came with a matching set of fingerless gloves.

-The CW's Female Host: What is the role you'd love to do next. If you could do anything following 'The Wrestler' what would it be?

-Mickey Rourke: (Slowly eyes her up from head to toe with a knowing smile and walks off.)
