A comprehensive subgenre aimed at and featuring teenagers or a group of teenagers as the protagonists. Adolescent issues, growing pains, adventures, and psychological traumas are often the primary focus, with the antagonistic elements usually being other teens, adults, parents and/or themselves. Usually, these films are broken up into distinct categories, all with their own conventions and focuses, including teen comedy (Sixteen Candles, Weird Science), teen drama (Permanent Record, River's Edge, Rebel Without a Cause) and teen sex comedy (Porky's, Losin' It).
