A type of mystery in which the protagonist ventures into dangerous, unknown situations to solve a crime with the help of a love interest -- one who's usually first encountered during the process. The blend of these two forms often showcases two major stars and attempts to use both upon the emotions of masculine and feminine audiences. More often than not, the mystery, crime, or danger presents challenges for the ultimate union of the couple but also heightens eroticism and trust as they must depend on only each other. Classic examples include numerous Hitchcock films such as Spellbound and Rear Window, and film noir (Laura, The Big Sleep).
