Usually broad and slapstick-laden, police comedies take the conventions of the police thriller and use them to humorous effect, sending up the bureaucracies, procedures, and overall seriousness of the men in blue. The concept of police "partners" also provides a natural buddy-comedy element to these types of films. Still, most police comedies retain the "good guy/bad guy" aspect and the general overall structure of a thriller, giving them wider popular appeal.
