British Empire Film

Generally set somewhere in the far-flung British Empire, this type of film concerns the exploits and adventures of noble British colonialists suppressing "savage" revolts by the natives and being generally classy gents. They were, ironically enough, immensely popular just as the British Empire was poised to be reduced to rubble by the Second World War. Mostly presenting an idealized version of the old upper classes, the characters are shown being kind to the right kind of natives (Gunga Din), who in turn help them out when the going gets rough. Lives of the Bengal Lancer is a film that actually came from Hollywood but follows the efforts of three British Soldiers to suppress yet another native revolution.
