In show business for virtually all her life, Countess Vaughn began by singing in her church choir back home in Idabel, Oklahoma. At age nine, her soulful rendition of "What the World Needs Now Is Love Sweet Love" won Vaughn the top spot as junior vocalist champion and overall junior champion on the syndicated "Star Search". She was then added to the cast of the NBC sitcom "227" in 1988, playing Alexandria DeWitt, an 11-year old high school freshman. After the demise of that series, Vaughn released an album in 1992 and sang on telethons and at parades, along with appearing on such series as "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" in a guest shot and in a recurring role on "Hangin' With Mr. Cooper".
