A tall, classically trained character actor, Kimbrough began his career working on Broadway and came to prominence in two Stephen Sondheim musicals, "Company" (1970) and "Sunday in the Park With George" (1984). Among his film credits are "The Front" (1976) and "Starting Over" (1979) and he provided the voice of one of the gargoyles in Disney's animated "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1996). After years of work for PBS' "American Playhouse" and guest appearances on TV, Kimbrough was cast as the straight-laced, unemotional news anchor Jim Dial on CBS' "Murphy Brown" (1988-98).
