Ben Grauer (born Benjamin Franklin Grauer) was an appealing child actor of the late 1910s and early '20s (he played a native boy in D.W. Griffith's The Idol Dancer). He joined NBC in 1930, as an announcer. He stayed with that company until his retirement in 1973, ultimately gaining nationwide fame for possessing "the most authoritative voice in the world."
