Professional tennis player Venus Ebone Starr Williams was born on June 17, 1980, in Lynwood, California, and is the older sister of Serena Williams. Venus was home schooled and was raised a devote Jehovah's Witness, and she is a graduate of the Art Institute of Florida. She turned pro on October 31, 1994, but only began to play on a regular basis on the 1995 tour. In February 2002, Venus became the top ranked player in the world, the first African-American player to hold that spot since rankings began in 1975. She is an Olympic singles and doubles gold medallist, and she holds the fastest recorded serve in WTA history with a 127-mph serve in 1998. In addition to tennis, Venus is also a CEO of her own interior design firm 'V Starr Interiors' in Jupiter, Florida, and has designed interior for homes and businesses in the Palm Beach area.
