Known as the most successful female ski racer
in American history, Lindsey Vonn (born Oct.
18, 1984) is the only U.S. woman to have won
two World Cup overall titles. She also earned
two downhill titles and a super-G title. Six
weeks after she turned 20, she produced her
first World Cup victory. She has more World
Cup wins (30) and podium finishes (58) than
any American woman. Vonn received four World
Championship medals, including two golds, in
2009.
Vonn was a medal favorite coming into the
2006 Turin Olympic Games, but she had a scary
crash during a downhill training run and was
airlifted to a hospital. Vonn thought she had
broken her back and her career was over.
Miraculously, she returned and within two
days was competing but did not medal.
She is married to 2002 Olympian Thomas Vonn.
