For the first time in 88 years the Chicago White Sox have won the World Series. The team defeated the Houston Astros in four exciting games, completing the sweep with a 1-0 win in game four. Series Most Valuable Player Jermaine Dye had the game-winning RBI, coming in the top of the eighth inning with two outs. Once again it was Houston closer Brad Lidge who played the role of the goat, giving up the only run of the game after coming in to relieve starter Brandon Backe. Backe pitched seven innings of lights out ball until giving way to Lidge, who allowed pinch hitter Willie Harris,the leadoff batter in the eighth inning, to reach base. A bunt and a ground ball moved Harris over to third before Dye came through with a single up the middle to drive in the run.
