Usher To Play Boxer Sugar Ray Leonard

3/22/2012 10:03pm EDT
R&B singer Usher is stepping into the ring to play boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard in an upcoming film.

The "Confessions" hitmaker will portray the now-retired champion in Hands of Stone, a new biopic about Panamanian fighter Roberto Duran, played by Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal.

And although the Grammy Award winner has yet to meet Leonard, Usher admits he's already begun honing his skills.

He tells BBC News, "If you see me in the corners boxing... I'm in preparation for a very incredible role. If you guys see me running around London that's what it is."

The movie, which is set to b...

Sugar Ray Leonard Cries During Interview As He Recalls Sexual Abuse As A Child

8/3/2011 7:30pm EDT
Sugar Ray Leonard
Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard broke down in tears during a TV interview on Wednesday when he recalled the sexual abuse he suffered as a child.

The fighting champ went public with his shocking revelation in June as he launched his new memoir, The Big Fight: My Life In and Out of the Ring, and claimed he was assaulted by two unnamed sports coaches during the 1970s - when he was a teenager.

He struggled with his emotions during an appearance on U.S. chat show The Talk as he recounted the personal trauma on air.

Leonard insisted the men who committed the crimes were not training him whe...

'Dancing With The Stars' Finale Crowns Hines Ward MVP Of The Ballroom

5/25/2011 8:09am EDT
Dancing With The Stars
Us audience members were officially cut off Tuesday morning. No more voting for "Dancing With The Stars." But the judges still had another set of scores to give on Tuesday’s finale, and we got three hours of show to sit through. Three hours. They had to make up for Monday’s show only being an hour long, I guess.

Luckily the first hour was a repeat, so I don’t have to write five million extra words for a third of the show. Then the opening sequence and voice over for the real show kicked in, and were especially dramatic. That is saying a lot when talking about this show. I a...

Sugar Ray Leonard Says He Was Sexually Abused As A Child

5/18/2011 2:30pm EDT
Sugar Ray Leonard
Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard was sexually abused by a "prominent" coach as a child, he reveals in a new memoir.

The famous fighter, who makes the confession in his upcoming tell-all book, The Big Fight: My Life In and Out of the Ring, admits he was assaulted by an unnamed "prominent Olympic boxing coach" on two occasions during the 1970s - the first time when he was just 15.

In an excerpt, obtained by the New York Times, he writes, "Before I knew it, he had unzipped my pants and put his hand, then mouth, on an area that has haunted me for life. I didn't scream. I didn't look at him. ...

'Dancing With The Stars' Week Four Elimination Is 'The Heart Of The Show' Sugar Ray

4/13/2011 9:28am EDT
Classical Week performances are over and done, but ‘Dancing With The Stars’ still had last night’s results show to milk the orchestra. It wasn’t quite as effective with Jennifer Hudson taking Katherine Jenkins’ spot at center stage, but that wasn’t really what mattered. What mattered is who the heck was going to go home. This was one of those weeks that it seemed like it could have been anyone.

In fact, the first couple declared to be in jeopardy was sort of a shock based on judge scores, but even then I still wondered if it really could have been their time. I’m getting ahead of mys...

'Dancing With The Stars' Week Four Gives Us Classics & Another Leader Board Shift

4/12/2011 9:20am EDT
DWTS Classical themed week
Tchaikovsky, Rota, Bocelli, Williams... It’s Classical Week on ‘Dancing With The Stars’, and the band has gone and multiplied into a 46 member orchestra. On top of that, we had some amazing guest stars, like violinist David Garrett and singer Katherine Jenkins. I’m not a huge fan of classical music, but I enjoy it enough, and this was one of the best theme nights I can remember in recent seasons.

The stage was really quite amazing to see, and it brought a whole new element to the show. Last season they did Acoustic Week, and that was uneventful in my eyes, but this was a game changer. ...

'Dancing With The Stars' Review: Week Three Elimination... Wendy Williams

4/6/2011 9:18am EDT
Monday night we laughed and cried, and oohed and aahed, among other cliche reactions, over the emotional stories our stars told with their dances. We collectively cringed over Kirstie and Maks’ fall, then talked about it all day long. We discussed how the scores have been all over the place this season... and then talked about Kirstie and Maks some more.

Look, you fall down on ‘Dancing’, and you’re going to have to talk about it and hear about it until you have a nervous breakdown. It’s just the way it is.

Here’s a run down of where we stood after Monday’s performances:

1. Hines and K...

'Dancing With The Stars' Week Three Performances Get Emotional

4/5/2011 9:20am EDT
With Mike and Lacey gone, we now have ten stars standing, some good, some bad, some ridiculous. Some of them are all of those things at the same time, and this week they get to tell us their personal stories. Each star picked a song that they had an emotional connection to, and had to express it in their dance.

It wasn’t as silly as I thought it was going to be.

The outcomes were a little surprising, most especially because they gave us a brand new pecking order at the end of the night. Again. This season is shaping up to be unpredictable. Don’t these people realize that they’re toyi...

'Dancing With The Stars' Review: And The First Elimination Of Season Twelve Is...

3/30/2011 9:41am EDT
Mike Catherwood and Lacey Schwimmer
It's inevitable. One by one, all the contestants on 'Dancing With The Stars' will go home until there is only one left standing. It's no fun for anyone, but for the very first to go, it downright stinks.

Of course, before we kick someone off the dance floor crying (maybe), the first hour of 'Dancing' is the recap hour. I actually really like to rewatch the dances without all the extraneous stuff. And I have to admit that on second watch, yes, I was a little harsh in my criticism of Petra this week. Did I think she had any better a chance going into the elimination show after a rewatch...

'Dancing With The Stars' Week Two Performances Review

3/29/2011 8:47am EDT
Romeo and Chelsie Hightower
It's week two of 'Dancing With The Stars', and expectations are high. For some. Ralph Macchio and Kirstie Alley came out on fire last week, and we wanted to see if they can keep up the high standard. Was it luck? A product of the opening night high? I was especially interested in seeing Kirstie, considering I expected utter clumsiness last week. She shocked a lot of people. Can she do it again?

The rest of our stars are... not so heavily anticipated. In fact, Mike Catherwood couldn't get worse. Well, I shouldn't say that. He could fall down this week, or have a nervous bre...

'Dancing With The Stars' Recap: The Karate Kid Sweeps This Leg Of The Competition

3/22/2011 1:00pm EDT
Dancing with the Stars Ralph Macchio
On the season premiere of Dancing with the Stars, we were treated to a handful of surprises. Karate Kid Ralph Macchio started at the top of the competition, and right behind him was... Kirstie Alley!

Meanwhile, fan favorites Kendra Wilkinson and Wendy Williams were on the bottom half - lucky for them, radio personality Mike Catherwood had the worst performance of the night. But let's start at the top:

Ralph Macchio stunned the judges with his foxtrot with partner Karina Smirnoff, set to "Kick in the Head." Judge Len Goodman said the obvious: "You've got great potential... best foxtrot of ...

Police Back Romeo For 'Dancing With The Stars'

3/11/2011 8:51am EST
Rapper/actor Romeo is learning his upcoming stint on TV hit "Dancing With The Stars" is a big deal - even the police are backing him to win the contest.

The young star was pulled over by cops on Wednesday as he and dance partner Chelsea Hightower were on their way to a party - just so the officers could let him know they were backing him for glory.

He says, "I'm like, 'What did I do...?' and the cop who pulled me over said, 'You're gonna win... Dancing with the Stars.' It's crazy that everybody watches this show - even the police.

"I didn't get no ticket (sic), so that's a good thing."

3/8/2011 8:36am EST
Sugar Ray Leonard
Boxing great Sugar Ray Leonard has attempted to put 33 years of in-fighting between himself and real-life "The Fighter" character Dicky Ecklund to rest - by revealing the truth about the end of their 1978 bout.

The boxing champ has rarely spoken about the fight, which he was expected to win early - but, after appearing as himself in Mark Wahlberg's boxing movie, he has decided it's time to address one of the boxing world's most-talked about moments.

Pundits still argue over whether Ecklund knocked the undefeated champ down in his first big fight, or whether Sugar Ray slipped in the ring a...

'Bachelor' Recap: Wife Material

3/1/2011 1:08pm EST
Last week’s hometown visits helped “The Bachelor” eliminate professional embalmer and future head of the funeral home, Shawntel N. Did anyone ever doubt that Brad would follow in the footsteps of previous “Bachelor (ette) s” (Jason Meznick and Ali Fedotowsky) who quickly ended their relationship with a contestant whose hometown visit included a brush with death (pet cemetery and taxidermy)? Cool as Shawntel was, she wasn’t making it out of the subsequent rose ceremony alive.

This week was a bit trickier to determine. We’ve seen Brad have his ups and downs with all three potential brides-t...

2/28/2011 10:00pm EST
Dancing With The Stars
Dancing With The Stars is set for its big 12th season return in just a few weeks, and the new cast is official!

During Monday night's episode of The Bachelor, DWTS hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke revealed the new cast, most of whom came as no surprise as a partial list was leaked earlier in the day.

One standout is rapper Romeo, who was supposed to have been on the show for Season 2 but had to drop out after a basketball injury left him sidelined. His father, rapper Master P, took over for him and was quick to exit the show after dismal performances.

The perennial judges panel of Len...

Muhammad Ali has only "months to live", according to his family and friends. The boxing legend, 63, has been bravely battling Parkinson's disease for the last 20 years but his condition is deteriorating rapidly. Daughter Laila, who has followed in Ali's footsteps by becoming a world champion boxer, says her father can now no longer speak and shuts himself away from his loved ones.

She said: "It is painful because I would love to sit down and talk with my dad about the way he used to be when he was my age and in his prime because we are so much alike. But I can't really share anything w...
