Channing Tatum is revving up for a new role as daredevil stuntman Evel Knievel.

The Magic Mike star is in talks to play the legendary motorcyclist in a new motion picture based on Stuart Barker's 2008 book Life of Evel, and he has also been lined up to produce the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Knievel, who died in 2007 aged 69, was known for his daring bike jumps and for breaking 433 bones during his career.

The stuntman was previously played on the big screen by George Hamilton in 1971 film Evel Knievel, while Knievel played himself in 1977 movie Viva Knievel.

Knievel has announced he plans to visit Twin Falls, Idaho to discuss a plan to jump Snake River Canyon during the Independence Day weekend next year with local officials.

Jackass star Johnny Knoxville was left in severe pain recently after a TV stunt went wrong - leaving him with bloody testicles. The funnyman was filming an MTV tribute to the late Evel Knievel when he tried to replicate the legendary stuntman's daring motorcycle back flip.

Matthew McConaughey was among the mourners who spoke at legendary daredevil Evel Knievel's funeral in Butte, Montana on Monday. The star was among the 10,000 people who packed into the Butte Civic Center in Knievel's hometown to pay tribute to the stuntman, who died at the end of last month.

McConaughey, who befriended Knievel during the final years of his life and hosted a History Channel tribute, said, "He's forever in flight now and you know what, he don't have to come back down."
