Notes From Tribeca: The Sports Guy Bill Simmons Leads '30 for 30' Discussion

This past Saturday I caught the ESPN panel for their 30 for 30 documentary series that's running for their 30th anniversary. The documentary series features 30 films from a select group of filmmakers who tell stories from their own perspectives, "detailing the issues, trends, athletes, teams, rivalries, games and events that transformed the sports landscape from 1979 to 2009," according to 30for30espn.com.

The crux of the panel was supposed to center around Ice Cube and his documentary (which premiered at the festival), Straight Outta LA. Unfortunately, he had to back out at the last minut...

Movie Review: Gunnin' For That #1 Spot

When I found out that Adam Yauch, otherwise known as MCA of the Beastie Boys, was doing a documentary about the twenty four top high school prospects in the nation playing in a historically unprecedented game at New York's historically monumental Rucker Park, I couldn't help but anticipate a film that made generous use of the fish lenses why bumping away to a cranked soundtrack meshing hip hop and punk. In this regard, "Gunnin' For That #1 Spot" certainly doesn't disappoint.

Reebok and multi-platinum Latin music recording artist Daddy Yankee have formed a multi-year partnership that includes a signature collection of athletic footwear, apparel and accessories called DY. Regarded as one of the most respected and influential reggaeton artists, Yankee is the latest star to join Reebok's music roster that includes Grammy award winners Jay-Z, 50 Cent and Nelly.
