Hulk Hogan & the Wrestling Boot Band
Hulk Rules
Release Date 1995 07 11
Label Select Records
Rating:

Hulk Hogan's 1995 album Hulk Rules actually cracked the top ten of Billboard's Children's chart. While it hardly blurs the lines between good music and "professional" wrestling, Hulk Rules is a riot. Released by Select Records, home of Jerky Boys, Kid 'N Play, and Chubb Rock, Hulk Rules demonstrates that the company is not very selctive about the quality of music it releases. But it did smell a hit. The record's succes on the charts does not mean it is good music for children, either, though the anti-drug, etc. messages on it are not offensive. Wrestling fans who don't already own this album (and are you a fan if you don't??) will undertand that, of course, Hulk manager Jimmy Hart helped produce this effort. A parent would be better off buying albums by the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Mozart, and others than this. It is amazing that this CD was released in 1995, more than a full decade after it would have been a very popular item. The only standout track listenable more than half a time is the hillarious &"I Want to Be a Hulkamaniac" which should have been the theme song for Jessie Ventura's gubernatorial campaign. It is funny and has the best New Kids on the Block knock-off sound on the album. Hulk Rules is a classic 1 Store find. Paying any more should get you body slammed. JT Griffith, Rovi
