Jerome Bettis Biography
Birth Name: Jerome Bettis
American football player Jerome 'The Bus' Bettis was born on Feb. 16, 1972, in
Detroit, Michigan. The Los Angeles Rams picked the Halfback in the first round
of the 1993 NFL draft, and as a rookie he rushed for 1,429 yards and was named
the Offensive Rookie of the Year. Jerome was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers
in 1996, and became an important part of the Steelers Offense, and was named to
the Pro Bowl in 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 2001 and 2004. He also won the NFL Comeback
Player of the Year award in 1996 and the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in
2002. Jerome finished his 13 years in the NFL as the fifth all-time leading rusher
with 13,662 yards and ended his career as a champion with a 21-10 victory over
the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL. As a youngster, Jerome suffered from Asthma
and is now a spokesman for GlaxoSmithKline's Asthma Control test. He has his own
line of submarine sandwiches, chicken wings, mustard, barbeque sauce and other
products.
