Carmelo Anthony Biography
Professional basketball player Carmelo Kiyan Anthony was born on May 29, 1984,
in New York City, but moved to Baltimore in 1992. Carmelo grew up in the Druid
Hill section of West Baltimore and attended Towson Catholic High School, however
he transferred to Oak Hill Academy in Virginia his senior year. He played only
one season at Syracuse University, and he lead the Orangemen to their first ever
NCAA tournament title in 2003. He was a first-round pick by the Denver Nuggets
in the 2003 draft and in his first year, he averaged 21 points per game and helped
the Nuggets to one the biggest turn arounds in the NBA. Carmelo was selected to
the 2004 Olympic basketball team, and he set a US scoring record with 35 points
against Italy in the competition. He is also a spokesman for Family Resource centers
and he annually hosts a Christmas party for underprivileged children called 'A
Very Melo Christmas.' On Christmas Day 2004, Carmelo became engaged to VJ and
television personality Alani 'La La' Vazquez.
