The Best Inspirational Sports Films

November 19th, 2009 8:54pm EST
Blind Side
Sports movies generally come in one of two flavors: comedic efforts featuring a ragtag group of players coming together to achieve success or dramatic situations revolving around a semi-tragic or extremely difficult obstacle that stands in the way of achieving success.

"The Blind Side," which opens Friday, definitely falls into the latter category.

Based on Michael Lewis' novel, the movie adaptation focuses in on one particular story in the book - the rise of Michael Oher, an offensive lineman who went from living on the streets to becoming a first-round draft pick in this year's NFL...

This Week's Movie Buzz: See It, Rent It, Or Skip It?

July 6th, 2009 9:36am EDT
Bruno
Last week, I chose to see "Public Enemies," which is a decision I definitely do not regret. Johnny Depp is electric as John Dillinger, oozing the charm and finesse of the real life American bank robber and folk hero. Christian Bale also does a solid job as the FBI agent Melvin Purvis, a man singularly obsessed with catching Dillinger.

My main complaints are that the movie does not develop the roles of the other gangsters very well, and at points that the cinematography leaves something to be desired. There are some really shaky handheld shots, which are nauseating. Other than that, ...

Professional Wrestling Vs. Boxing Vs. MMA - Which Is Better?

April 27th, 2009 1:57pm EDT

Professional boxing used to be the #1 fighting sport with boxing greats like Muhammad Ali and Evander Holyfield. It was highly successful on cable and pay-per-view beginning with the Mike Tyson era in the 80s. Professional boxing may even be surpassed by Professional wrestling, which is a fake sport but still garners high ratings on cable and millions of viewers on pay-per-view. While MMA and boxing fans argue about which is the better fighting sport, wrestli...
