'American Gladiators': Broken Leg, Laila Improves, Hellga Gets Launched

January 15th, 2008 10:28am EST
American Gladiators
Last week’s big tease paid off immediately on last night’s "American Gladiators." Adam Levin, a shark hunter that goes by the nickname "Hebrew Hammer," only lasted a few seconds into Powerball before his leg was broken by Mayhem. Adam actually tried to get up and score another point, with Toa trying to nudge him away without hurting him even more. We were then treated to a cheesy moment with Titan making sure he was okay. Adam said Titan was the reason he started lifting, and Titan exclaimed, "This is a true warrior, a true American Gladiator!" Amusingly, Adam’s opponent Sharaud scored as m...

January 8th, 2008 11:47am EST
American Gladiators
With Sunday night's premiere consisting of the first two episodes, the first showing of "American Gladiators" at its normal time is technically the third of the season. Last night's episode was exhilarating, but it brought up more growing pains the show is having.

Last night, a large man named Jeff that went by the nickname "Big Country" faced off against Adonis. I mentioned Adonis’ story in the preview; he was the first in his family to graduate from college and is an engineer at Boeing. He has also let the mythical status of his name go to his ego because he was talking trash all nig...

'American Gladiators' Recap: 2-Hour Premiere Special

January 7th, 2008 11:27am EST
American Gladiators
The 'American Gladiators' premiere certainly started ominously last night. Starting off with a bang, the first event was Powerball, one of the most physical competitions on the show. But before the two female contestants went against the Gladiators, viewers were treated to some sappy mini-bios.

Jessie’s was an egregious tale of how she got divorced, is a mother of three, and makes a living as a toilet paper salesman – that’s got to be the most difficult hard sell in the industry. Anyway, after she pined on about how the $100,000 prize would change her life, the Gladiator "Stealth" end...

But will the new version be any good? Will it bastardize the memorable series? Let’s take a look at what to expect this Sunday.

The Gladiators:

They are the backbone of the show. Athletes struggling with their on-screen personas won’t be tolerated this time around, so it will be very interesting to see what type of characters are brought to the table.
