Naomi Watts on Screaming for 'King Kong'

December 14th, 2005 9:18am EST
Naomi Watts didn't practice her scream for her role as the damsel in distress in King Kong. The stunning actress plays the giant gorilla's captor Ann Darrow - famously played by "Scream Queen" Fay Wray in the original 1933 movie - in the blockbuster remake, and was told by director Peter Jackson her "pipes" needed to be loud and in perfect working order.

Watts insists she couldn't practice screaming because people don't screech in terror in real life. She said: "It's funny, the whole scream thing, because you don't really scream in real life. If there's truly anything scary, then you w...

New In Theaters Today: King Kong

December 14th, 2005 8:00am EST
King Kong
Peter Jackson's King Kong is the second big-screen remake of the 1933 classic. Set in the 1930s, the film follows a group of advantageous American adventurers who travel to a secluded island in search of a fabled giant ape. Not only do they find the 25-foot primate, they're also faced with an assortment of prehistoric creatures previously thought to be long extinct. Filling the shoes worn first by Fay Wray, and later by Jessica Lange in the 1976 version, is Naomi Watts, who plays Ann Darrow, the only person who can calm the mighty Kong. Adrien Brody and Jack Black also star.

An Exclusive Look at 'King Kong'

November 28th, 2005 9:42am EST

I'm going to have to come up with a better answer."

Senior Writer Devin Gordon, who got an exclusive first look at the film when he accepted Jackson's invitation and flew halfway around the world to see it, writes that perhaps the best answer is the movie itself. ...

Peter Jackson’s King Kong is three hours long, a half hour longer than originally expected. The remake’s running time is nearly double the 1993 version. The production costs have also swelled from $175 million to $207 million due to extra digital effects.

"I anticipated it would be long, but not this long," Universal Pictures chairwoman Stacey Snider told the New York Times. "This is a masterpiece. I can't wait to unveil it."
