Meryl Streep is set to reunite with her The Manchurian Candidate director Jonathan Demme for a new independent film.

The veteran actress is set to star in a comedy/drama titled Ricky and the Flash, according to Variety.

The project brings Streep back together with Silence of the Lambs director Demme, 10 years after they joined forces for the political drama remake.

Streep will play a woman who abandoned her family to seek fame and fortune in California, only to return home to be a mum again.

Meryl Streep has established two scholarships at a top Massachusetts university to help students studying English.

The actress is planning a visit to the UMass Lowell campus next month (Feb14) to officially launch the new grants as part of the school's Chancellor's Speaker Series.

The scholarships will be endowed with all net proceeds from the discussion, which is expected to raise more than $100,000 (£62,500).
