Connie StevensHank Williams Song Book Release Date: 1962 Label: Collectors' Choice Music Rating: ![]() |
Connie Stevens' 1962 album The Hank Williams Song Book marked the pop singer's first foray into country music. Her versions of "Jambalaya," "Hey, Good Lookin'," and "Your Cheatin' Heart" can't compare to Williams' renditions but they're not meant to; the pop sweetness she lends to these songs of heartache and betrayal place them in an entirely different context. The Hank Williams Song Book is a surprisingly strong album, one of the more unique releases in Stevens' catalog, and a worthwhile reissue as well. Heather Phares, All Music Guide
