| "Missy" wasn't "one of" she was IT. The best personally and professionally...Far too underrated and under-acknowledged. The greatest actress who ever lived. Period. | ||

Barbara Stanwyck is considered along with Bette Davis, Greta Garbo, Katharine Hepburn, and Joan Crawford as one of the great female Movie stars. Miss Stanwyck was one of the greatest actresses of the silver screen and also widely admired off screen by her peers in Hollywood for her professionalism and her dedication to the Industry. Quite possibly she is the most glaring example of a great actress bypassed by Oscar. Brilliant performances in "Stella Dallas", "The Lady Eve", "Ball of Fire" "Double Indemnity" and "Sorry Wrong Number" however did not garner Stanwyck the elusive Oscar. As with Garbo, the Academy awarded her an Honorary Oscar for a lifetime of great work. When she was awarded her Oscar she dedicated it to "Her 'Golden Boy' William Holden. Holden years earlier when presenting an Oscar along with Stanwyck interrupted his presentation to publicly thank Stanwyck for his role in "Golden Boy" and that he was about to be replaced and Stanwyck insisted Holden remain in the picture. It was a great moment. As was when Stanwyck dedicated her Oscar to Bill Holden. Stanwyck could never give anyting but a great performance. Miss Stanwyck beloved by crews in Hollywood and nicknamed "Missy" landed a coveted role as Matriach of a Clan in Four Star Televisions hit series "The Big Valley" true to form Stanwyck played an always in control woman, rode horses and at the same time conveyed a sexy mature glamour. One of the truly great stars of Hollywood. | ||
