USA Medical Drama 'Complications' Is A Winner

6/18/2015 12:12pm EDT
'Complications' Preview: Matt Nix Scores Again For USA
Burn Notice creator Matt Nix is headed back to USA tonight with the new original series Complications, and it's another winning hand for one of TV's best writers and one of TV's strongest networks. This is not your average medical drama.

First things first, if you're tuning into Complications expecting Burn Notice in a hospital, you're going to be sorely disappointed. Complications is a much more serious show, fitting in well with the grittier tone that USA has taken on with shows like Graceland as it's one part medical show, one part crime drama. If you like either of those genres, you'll...

'Burn Notice' Recap: 'Fail Safe' (4.18)

12/15/2011 11:17pm EST
Burn Notice
Fail Safe the film (either of them) was fantastic and chilling. "Fail Safe" the Burn Notice finale is not going to keep me up at night, but it certainly capped off the fifth season with a lot to talk about.

Anson has "an instant recipe for mayhem," and Michael's committed to "doing whatever it takes" to stop him from bringing back the very illegal organization that started it all. The episode starts with the moment most might have saved to the end - Michael having a face-to-face confrontation with the man who's been running his life all season, debating how much of a life Michael ha...

'Burn Notice' Recap: 'Acceptable Loss' (5.17)

12/8/2011 11:07pm EST
Burn Notice
"Acceptable Loss" is the next-to-last episode of Burn Notice season five. It's not a whiz-bang episode, but it is one that will tug fiercely at your heartstrings before next week's finale.

Michael and Fiona leave Miami behind for a Washington, D.C. law firm that has ties to Anson. In its file room, Fiona digs up paperwork on last season's "big bad," Vaughn Anderson (Robert Wisdom). Nothing to complicate things like two major villains connected to one another. Michael convinces Pearce (Lauren Stamile) to bring Vaughn to Tampa, but Vaughn wants full immunity before he'll be of any help.

'Burn Notice' Recap: 'Necessary Evil' (5.14)

11/17/2011 11:05pm EST
Burn Notice
Oh, Burn Notice. You lure me in with the explosions, but I keep you around because your characters are just so much fun to spend a Thursday night with.

Now that they know where Anson is operating, Michael is determined to listen in to what he's up to - by breaking into the nearby defense firm. Tracking his calls leads them to...Benny, Madeline's boyfriend?! Michael tries to break the news to his mom, but Maddie decides she'd rather find out for herself. She's crushed when she finds photos of her son and his friends inside her new sweetheart's pad, never mind that Benny seems remo...

'Burn Notice' 5.11 'Better Halves' Review

9/1/2011 10:02pm EDT
Burn Notice
Tonight's episode was the last Burn Notice before the summer finale. With momentum to build, the show gave us...the tired premise of a show's two leads going undercover as a married couple? It's above average, but you'd be forgiven for any deja vu.

We've seen this before. The X-Files did it well. Nikita didn't do it so well. I'm sure there are others I'm not currently thinking of. In the versions I've seen, it's a way to make commentary on the real relationship (or lack thereof) between the two characters via the fake one - and it usually comes off far too obvious for my taste. Bu...

'Burn Notice' 5.10 'Army Of One' Review

8/25/2011 9:59pm EDT
Burn Notice
Last week's Burn Notice was the halfway point for season five, and it was a pretty good one. Now there's the question: what's the series going to do in the back half, to push itself to the expected next level?

What it's always done - bring plenty of action and lace it with sharp wit.

"So we're gonna snatch a murder with some magnets and a roll of duct tape?" Sam asks skeptically early on, to which Michael cheerfully responds, "And guns, Sam. Plenty of guns." The witty rejoinder is just the beginning of an opening that involves fire and shots being exchanged with the man who fram...
