Kathy Bates Is Ready For Another Course Of 'Harry's Law'

September 14th, 2011 11:18am EDT
Harry's Law
‘Harry’s Law’ is gearing up for a second season on NBC, and star Kathy Bates is ready to go.

The show was one of NBC’s bright spots last season, and the network is confident enough to move the show to Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EDT starting Sept. 21.

Bates, for one, is having a ball. In a conference call, Bates says she is riding the momentum from the first season, and she’s enjoying it now. She notes the challenges of such a physical job and learning so many lines. “You know, it was a steep learning curve last year,” she says, “But I’m really enjoying it. I really enjoy going into work ever...

Thankfully, mid-July is finally upon us, and I can take comfort in the knowledge that most television shows have began production for the 2011-2012 season. To honor this momentous occasion, I will be detailing my wishes upcoming seasons of my beloved shows. I will do a different show every week, so stay tuned for your favorites and feel free to chime in too. First up: arguably the best rookie show of last season, CBS’ “Hawaii Five-0.”

Film on DVD: 'Life As We Know It' [Blu-Ray]

February 11th, 2011 3:50pm EST
Life As We Know It
If you're looking for a movie to start your Valentine's Day weekend off with, WB released the Josh Duhamel-Katherine Heigl romantic comedy Life As We Know It on Blu-Ray and DVD Tuesday. Here's a look at what's inside the Blu-Ray combo pack version of the release.

The Movie

Life As We Know It is not breaking new ground - it reminds me of a Lifetime TV-movie called Raising Waylon in many respects - but I feel safe in saying that we don't generally expect romantic comedies to be groundbreaking. We go to them because they're familiar and feel-good.

What tends to separate one romantic comed...

William Shatner may just be warp-speeding past Ryan Seacrest as the man with the most jobs in show business: the TV icon has a hit sitcom with big upcoming guest stars, a talk show, a newsmakers series, an upcoming book and a new album in the works.

His CBS sitcom, $#*! My Dad Says, is a likely candidate to return for a second season, the actor told TV Guide Magazine at a breakfast to distribute philanthropic funds in conjunction with the Hollywood Charity Horse Show he founded. "It's getting terrific numbers, holding steady and beginning to build, and we're very hopeful for next season,"...

Review: 'Two Jews On Film' Agree On 'Barry Munday' (Video)

September 30th, 2010 9:59am EDT
Barry Munday
"Barry Munday" a quirky, very funny, and heartwarming film stars the wonderful Patrick Wilson, (playing against type), Judy Greer, Chloe Sevigny, Colin Hanks, Cybill Shepherd, Jean Smart, Emily Proctor, Missi Pyle and Malcolm McDowell. Barry Munday is a wanna be suburban Don Juan and your typical man-child. He gets viciously attacked in a movie theater one day and wakes up in a hospital bed. He quickly discovers that he's lost something very precious...his testicles. On top of that he finds out he's impregnated a woman (the marvelous Judy Greer) that he can't remember having sex with. Our Favorite Films About Animals

The Lion King
'Tis the season to slaughter turkeys. Did anybody not see former Vice President wannabe Sarah Palin hold a Q&A downstage of a turkey’s obvious death? (Go HERE if you didn't.)

On a more cheerful note, here are a few gems from Hollywood made for the animal lover in all of us:

Best All-Around Animal Film

The Adventures of Milo and Otis

The film is the best all-animal movie, with March of the Penguins coming in as an understudy. A documentary showing a death of a cute baby penguin? Definitely going to lose against a Japanese (yes, really, Japanese) movie with Dudley Moore as a...

Who Will & Who Should Win An Emmy

September 18th, 2008 9:22am EDT

Ah, the Emmys, the most entertaining awards show and often the most frustrating. Why is it so frustrating? Because the voters get it wrong. They get the winners wrong more often than casual sports bettors. In fact, they get it so wrong that predicting the winners is often a fool's errand since it's impossible to determine what will strike the Academy's fancy as the reasons for their choices are as mystifying as the results.

Luckily, Starpulse.com has one such fool. So it's time for a round of everybody's favorite game: Who Will Win and Who Should Win?

Neil Patrick Harris
With the writer's strike a distant memory and an exciting new fall season dead ahead, we're finally ready to celebrate TV again. And what better way than with a lavish awards show?

Yes, the Emmy nominations were revealed at dawn in Los Angeles Thursday morning in a delightful little ceremony that saw Neil Patrick Harris and Kristin Chenoweth squeeze about two-dozen jokes in between their reading off the teleprompter.

There were surprises leading to gasps from the press, and plenty of nominations they all saw coming. Newcomer "Mad Men" led the drama category with 16 nominations w...

TV Stars Who Deserve Emmy Nominations On July 17, Part 2

Alec Baldwin - 30 Rock
Enough drama, time to laugh! The Emmy nominations are upon us, two days away in fact, so it's time to round out our suggestions to The Academy's blue ribbon panel. In the final installment, the focus turns to comedy and the actors who make us laugh every week.

This category is far more loaded than the drama section with far fewer obvious mistakes on the ballot and a ton of strong performances from the men and the women (rather than watching the ladies struggle with substandard material from their mostly male counterparts. Yes, I will clamor for more female writers and directors every...
